Job Description
The Conference Coordinator Intern is a temporary summer position serving a critical customer service role in Residential Life. The two (2) interns will facilitate on-site experience for conference guests that will exceed guests’ expectations. During the summer of 2026, our conference guests will include individuals supporting World Cup operations in Kansas City, in addition to traditional academic, athletic, and social groups.
Conference Coordinator Interns will receive supervision from a Residential Life Coordinator while also receiving direction from the Assistant Director of Residential Life for Business Operations and the Customer Service Manager in Student Auxiliary Services. This intern should be highly motivated, hardworking and able to think proactively in a fast-paced environment. Interns will also identify and complete a project that will enhance their professional skills and abilities.

Responsibilities
- Supervise and evaluate student staff
- Facilitate facility preparation and readiness for the arrival of conference guests
- Ensure that services and resources are in place to meet the needs of conference guests from arrival to departure
- Maintain accurate occupancy and transaction records for conference guests
- Attend in-person, actively participate, and facilitate sessions of professional and student staff training
- Attend weekly departmental staff meetings and conference staff meetings
- Co-lead weekly student staff meetings to communicate conference updates, operational tasks, conference needs and related expectations
- Facilitate professional and team development activities for student staff
- Serve in conference on-call rotation
- Other duties as assigned to ensure that conference guests have a positive experience at UMKC
- Expand professional network by meeting with senior and mid-level administrators at UMKC
- Gain experience as professional staff member within Residential Life
- Gain experience in team development and supervision
- Gain understanding of day-to-day conference services operations
- Position will require approximately 35 hours per week
- Conference Coordinator Interns will be unable to work a second position during the time of employment
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Must reside in the assigned on-campus apartment
- Current enrollment as a UMKC Graduate student
- Effective communication skills
- Demonstrated customer service and residential leadership
- Proficient in MS Office Suite
- Drivers’ license
- Stipend of $2,665 (taxable income) prorated based on dates of internship paid in monthly installments
- Food stipend of $1,615 (taxable income) prorated based on dates of internship paid in monthly installments
- Private bedroom and bathroom within furnished two-bedroom apartment, second bedroom occupied by other Conference Coordinator Intern; includes shared kitchen, living room, and laundry

- Must successfully complete a background check as required for employment in the University of Missouri System, background check will be initiated upon offer extension and acceptance
- Must successfully complete training, background check, and sex offender registry search in compliance with the Youth Protection Policy
