Job Description

The University of Missouri Department of Athletics is seeking a dynamic and competitive Head Tennis Coach to lead its NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Program competing in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).

This position requires a proven leader who can build a championship culture, recruit elite talent, develop student-athletes, and elevate Missouri Tennis into consistent SEC and national relevance. Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Head Women’s Tennis Coach will be responsible for all aspects of the tennis program with primary emphasis on coaching, recruiting, student-athlete development, and competitive success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coaching Competitive Success (45%)
  • Lead all on-court instruction, training sessions, and competitive preparation.
  • Design and implement daily practice plans focused on skill development and match readiness.
  • Develop team strategy for singles and doubles competition.
  • Prepare lineups and match tactics based on opponent scouting and team performance.
  • Provide direct coaching during matches and tournaments.
  • Establish clear standards for effort, discipline, accountability, and competitive excellence.
  • Evaluate individual and team performance following practices and competition.
  • Build a mentally tough and resilient team culture.
  • Develop offseason training plans in partnership with performance staff.
  • Create a championship environment that promotes sustained success.
  • Recruiting and Talent Acquisition (30%)
  • Lead all recruiting strategy for domestic and international prospects.
  • Identify and evaluate high-level student-athletes capable of succeeding in the SEC.
  • Build strong relationships with junior coaches, academies, clubs, and families.
  • Manage recruiting communications and prospect pipelines.
  • Coordinate official and unofficial campus visits.
  • Present a compelling vision for Missouri Tennis to recruits and families.
  • Evaluate transfer portal opportunities when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with NIL and roster management personnel on retention and acquisition strategy.
  • Maintain an organized recruiting database and evaluation process.
  • Build recruiting classes that address both immediate and long-term roster needs.
  • Student-Athlete Development and Leadership (15%)
  • Mentor student-athletes in leadership, maturity, and personal development.
  • Promote academic success and graduation outcomes.
  • Support health, wellness, and overall student-athlete experience.
  • Encourage professionalism and positive representation of the University.
  • Build strong relationships with team members based on trust and accountability.
  • Staff Leadership and Program Administration (10%)
  • Supervise assistant coaches and support staff.
  • Manage scheduling, travel, and program operations.
  • Ensure compliance with NCAA, SEC, and University policies.
  • Oversee budget and resource allocation.
  • Represent the program positively within the department and community.

Shift

Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm; Nights, Weekends, and Travel as required.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in related/relevant area or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior NCAA Tennis Coaching Experience is preferred.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
