Job Summary

The Information Resources Associate Supervisor's (IRAS) primary function is to co-supervise the Law Library Reading Room and Entrance Station Desks and the approximately 30 student assistants who staff the service points. The IRAS will use their problem solving skills and judgment to act as a night site supervisor overseeing Library functions, acting as a resource for patrons and student staff, and responding to facilities, access, and patron issues that arise at night. The IRAS's secondary function is to participate in Acquisitions work approval plans and electronic resources. The Information Resources Associate Senior works within the context of departmental and library-wide goals under the supervision of the Assistant Director for Research and User Services and the Head of Acquisitions.

During the academic year this position works a schedule of 3pm - midnight. During the Spring/Summer term and other interim periods, the schedule will adjust earlier to account for building hours.

The expected salary range for this position is $52,000 - $56,000

Responsibilities*

50% USER SERVICES FUNCTIONS

  • Functional co-supervision is exercised over approximately 30 student assistants.
  • Participate in Library Circulation functions, including creating and revising bibliographic and patron records to ensure the accurate display of circulation system information in the public catalog and the library management system.
  • Maintaining, revising, and updating Reading Room and Entrance Station desk policies, in consultation with Library management.
  • Coordinating, researching, and resolving complex problems.
  • Participate in the operation of the Library access policy and policy-making related to access.
  • Co-coordinating full-time and student staff in opening and closing of the Library.
  • Act as one of the Library liaisons with UM Police and Law School security guards on Library safety issues.
  • Resolving patron problems and complaints; referring as necessary.


45% ACQUISITIONS FUNCTIONS

  • Process and receive approval plan materials and participate in administration of Library approval plans.
  • Participate in Library electronic resource management including accessibility projects and usage statistics.
  • Perform other Acquisitions work including creating records, vendor relations, and authorizing invoices.


5% SHARED TASKS

  • Participates in Shared Tasks, including faculty and carrel recalls and deliveries, printer and supply checks
  • Participate in Library patron ID checks.
  • Provides coverage for in-building essential tasks and services


Supervision received: Primary administrative and functional supervision is received from the Assistant Director for Research and User Services, with secondary supervision received from the Head of Acquisitions.

Supervision exercised: Functional co-supervision is exercised over approximately 30 student assistants.

Required Qualifications*

  • A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to represent the library and interact with student staff and library users with a high level of integrity and professionalism, adhere to Law Library policies, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience supervising students, including hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and the ability to use judgment in response to unforeseen circumstances.
  • Experience working with the public.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, including accuracy working with numeric data.
  • Ability to work the scheduled evening/night and weekend hours.
  • Experience with an integrated library system.


Desired Qualifications*

  • Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in a library setting, working with collections, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Experience using Innovative Interface's Sierra LMS.
