Job Summary
The Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering Department within the University of Michigan College of Engineering, is seeking an Engineer in Research Senior to serve as the Associate Director of the Marine Hydrodynamics Laboratories. The ideal candidate will plan and coordinate the activities at the Marine Hydrodynamics Laboratory (MHL) located in West Hall on Central Campus.
Responsibilities*
Supervision/Management
In order to be considered for this position the applicant must have a degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering with an additional 3-5 years related experience.
Desired Qualifications*
Master's degree/Ph. D. preferred, with an additional 1-2 years of related experience. Experiences with towing tank and wave basin experiments, and general machinery and electrical engineering knowledge are preferred.

Responsibilities*
Supervision/Management
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the Marine Hydrodynamics Laboratory (MHL).
- Supervise student research assistants working at MHL.
- Oversee and integrate the work of assigned engineers on a project basis.
- Provide input to the MHL Director for the annual reviews of the NAME staff affiliated with the MHL.
- Provide specialized engineering advice to other engineers and research staff.
- Oversee the modification and maintenance of existing scientific equipment systems.
- Plan and coordinate the activities at the Marine Hydrodynamics Laboratory (MHL).
- Consult with and coordinate the work of subcontractors.
- Research duties include collaboration with faculty, staff, and students in the preparation of papers, reports, and presentations.
- Prepare sections of reports and proposals as assigned.
- Review and evaluate bids and proposals from subcontractors.
- Oversee expenditures associated with the MHL accounts related to labor, equipment, etc.
- Meet regularly with the MHL Director and NAME administration to review ongoing expenses and project future financial activity of the MHL.
- Functional supervision will be provided by the MHL Director
- Administrative supervision will be provided by the NAME Unit Administrator
