Job Description Summary
Organization's Summary Statement:The University of Maryland Department of Astronomy, a friendly and collaborative fast-paced department, is seeking a Business Coordinator to join our high-volume Business and Administrative team. The incumbent will support department operations through a broad range of business and administrative tasks, including managing travel and procurement, assisting with pre- and post-award financial processing, serving as a resource for employees and visitors on travel and procurement, acting as backup for other business office staff, and performing other duties as assigned. Strong time management, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines are essential for this role.
Physical Demands:
Much of the job is sedentary and will require viewing a computer terminal for long periods of time and substantial repetitive movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers from computer entry work. The incumbent will work primarily in an office environment, with some travel to other buildings on and off campus (attend meetings, pickup/drop-off paperwork, pickup/drop-off packages which may be heavy and require use of carts, etc.). The incumbent may assist in the setup for meetings and events that may require moving furniture, arranging food, technical setups, and so forth. The incumbent may exert 30 lbs. of force to occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
Licenses/ Certifications:
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: One (1) year of professional human resources, payroll, finance, accounting, procurement, or travel coordination experience.
Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures, and federal, state, and other applicable human resources related laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments.
Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
