II. Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
- In working with the SVP of marketing and communications, responsible for creating and executing Systemwide internal communication strategy that aligns with Systemwide priorities, culture and business objectives. Translate organizational strategy into clear, compelling and actionable messaging for diverse internal audiences. Establish governance, standards and best practices for internal communications across the System.
- Lead communications for the CEO, executive team, and hospital presidents, including enterprise-wide announcements, leadership messaging and crisis communications. Provide strategic counsel, message development and writing support for executive communications, including areas like change management, employee engagement and enterprise communications.
- Ensure System integration and alignment of messaging and communications practices across member orgs, service lines and corporate Shared Service. Drive standardization while allowing for local flexibility and customization. Build and maintain strong partnerships with member org communications teams and operational leaders.
- Responsible for oversight and coordination of internal communications channels, materials, publications and campaigns for the entire System as well as our Shared Service teams. Work with our member org communications teams to ensure consistent messaging that highlights our UMMS goals.
- Responsible for oversight and direction of our System Intranet content and strategy. Establish content strategy, editorial governance and publishing standards to ensure clarity, consistency, effectiveness and System integration.
- Lead communications strategy for major organizational initiatives, transformations, mergers, system implementations, and cultural change efforts. Develop and create communications strategies that strengthen organizational culture, reinforce System mission, values and priorities and promote team member morale, engagement and productivity.
- Oversee internal communications during crises, emergencies and high-impact operational events. Insure 24/7 support availability of emergency communications resources; advise organization on internal communications response, notification and operations during issues impacting business operations.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing internal communications team. Establish clear roles, workflows, priorities and performance expectations.
III. Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing, or Business or a related field is required.
- Advanced degree in communications, journalism, public affairs or related degree is preferred.
- 10 years of hospital, corporate and/or agency communications experience is required.
- At least 5 years of experience managing individuals and leading a communications function in a
