What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Transporter, Part-Time (M-F 3:30pm-9:00pm) position at University of Maryland Medical System?
Schedule: M-F 3:30pm-9:00pm, every other weekends included
We are seeking a dedicated Patient Transporter to join our healthcare team in Baltimore. In this essential role, you will be responsible for safely moving patients throughout our facility while ensuring their comfort and dignity.
- Transport patients of various ages and mobility levels between hospital departments using appropriate equipment and body mechanics
- Assist in moving patients to and from beds, wheelchairs, and other mobility devices
- Maintain patient comfort and safety during transportation while adhering to safety protocols
- Operate and maintain transport equipment according to facility standards
- Monitor patients’ condition during transport and report any concerns to medical staff
- Sanitize and prepare transport equipment between patient transfers
- Respond promptly to transport requests from various departments
- Document transport activities according to hospital procedures
- Assist in maintaining a clean and safe environment
- Provide direct observation of patients when required to ensure safety

- High school diploma or GED required
- Previous experience in a hospital setting preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of proper body mechanics and patient transfer techniques
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Physical ability to assist in patient movement and operate transport equipment
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to follow directions and protocols precisely
- Strong time management skills with capacity to prioritize effectively
- Demonstrated ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations
- Experience working in collaborative healthcare teams
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology and patient care principles
- Physical stamina to perform duties throughout entire shift
- Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor in high-stress situations
