What are the responsibilities and job description for the Referral Coordinator- Neurosurgery position at University of Maryland Medical Associates, LLC?
Under general supervision, ensures that all referrals from Primary Care Physicians are handled according to practice and payer guidelines and that patients receive appropriate support in obtaining needed services. Ensures that referral and pre-authorization activities are undertaken in order to provide maximum patient and provider satisfaction and maximum reimbursement.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Accepts and enters referrals into database. Provides pre-admission and financial counseling, as needed.
- Performs referral activities for patients including pre-registering patients during intake process. Contacts referral sources to obtain demographic and insurance data.
- Inputs and updates all pertinent demographic and financial data. Tracks patient compliance with referral appointment. Performs clerical tasks related to the maintenance of all patient medical records (including scanning records and processing medical records).
- Performs clerical tasks related to the input and maintenance of all patient medical records (including scanning records and processing medical releases).
- Investigates and responds to patient inquiries and complaints regarding insurance coverage. Utilizes strong customer service abilities to assist patients.
- Audits paperwork and files on each admission to assure accuracy and completion of information obtained and paperwork completed. Enters necessary corrections on admission information in computer system.
- Completes mandatory employee health, workers compensation, HR processes, and other training and requirements in required timeframe to insure compliance with all FPI rules and regulations.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Two years related medical office experience
- Accurate data entry skills
- Current knowledge of payer requirements for referrals and preauthorization
- Knowledge of GE/IDX or similar computerized billing system
- Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding
- General understanding of back office operations
- Strong customer service skills
- PC proficiency
- Medical terminology preferred

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland’s Faculty Physician’s Inc. salary range for this position. Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/training and other qualifications.
