Join the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) as our next Program Director for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program (DMSP), where you will have the unique opportunity to lead one of the region’s most highly regarded, CAAHEP-accredited programs. The Program Director is responsible for the structure as well as the daily operation of the DMSP, including organization, administration, periodic review, and evaluation, continued development, and general effectiveness of program curricula.


The director oversees recruiting new students, securing program resources (to include space, equipment and supplies) determining instructor salaries, and maintaining program budget. The director is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the program’s CAAHEP accreditation reporting and maintenance, including ongoing adherence to CAAHEP standards, completion of required annual reports, completion of periodic self-studies and coordination with the provosts’ office for all accreditation reviews.


The purpose of this position is to ensure that the DMSP can improve the lives of individual graduates, and the performance of the organizations (State of Maryland Sonography communities) where they become employed, through the delivery of high-quality education and clinical training that will prepare all graduates to pass the credentialing exams and succeed in the field of sonography.


The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program is a non-credit certificate program preparing completers to sit for the National Registry Exams in Sonography.


Responsibilities


  • Managing daily operation of DMSP including the organization, administration, periodic review and evaluation, continued development, and effectiveness of program curricula.
  • Ensuring that the effectiveness of all clinical affiliates is maintained via a schedule of regular visits/communications to all clinical affiliates. Creating and updating affiliate clinical site agreements for student clinical rotations.
  • Recruiting, selecting, training, supervising and evaluating instructors and clinical coordinators. Determining job descriptions and recommending salaries. Recommending or dismissing employees based on performance.
  • Overseeing admissions procedures including assessment of applicants and final decision making on individual admission status. Ensuring maintenance of students’ files and records.
  • Monitoring student progress and disciplinary issues as they arise. Recommending or dismissing students based on performance.
  • Maintaining, updating and managing student lifecycle to include Student Manual and Master Plan, program schedule, orientations, session calendars, and program schedules. Coordinating all class schedules for all specialties. Assigning instructors to all classes.
  • Securing program resources and administering all financial management for the $1.2m program. Monitoring DMSP operating budget. Maintaining inventory of program resources - books, equipment, and supplies.
  • Participating in new marketing strategies for the program. Planning program events. Setting up and conducting information sessions for prospective students.
  • Performing periodic review and evaluation of program per NEC and CAAHEP Standards. Ensuring adherence to objectives of program in accordance with standards and guidelines set by JRC-DMS and UMBC mission. Maintaining accreditation with CAAHEP through JRC-DMS; continuously, annually and during the program’s self-study re-accreditation process. Liaising with Provost’s office for all accreditation requirements.
  • Representing UMBC and maintaining communication with sonography professional organizations. Attending program directors’ meetings and annual scientific sessions. Maintaining communication with Medical Directors and Guest Lecturers. Chairing Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.


Required Minimum Qualifications


  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree
  • Hold appropriate sonography credentials - RDMS, RDCS (or RCS) or RVT (or RVS)
  • Candidates must be a graduate of an CAAHEP accredited Cardiac, Abdomen-Extended/OB-GYN or Vascular ultrasound program
  • Two year full-time clinical experience as a registered sonographer in the professional sonography field
  • Five years of documented experience that reflects skills in management, supervision, instruction, student guidance, and/or evaluation, educational theories and techniques

Note: Documentation of experience in theories and techniques may include completed college courses, seminars or in-service sessions on topics including, but not limited to learning theory, curriculum design, test construction, teaching methodology or assessment techniques.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Master’s degree
  • Multiple sonography credentials - RDMS, RDCS (or RCS) or RVT (or RVS)
  • 5-10 years clinical experience as a registered sonographer in the professional sonography field
  • 5-10 years as an instructor, coordinator, manager or leader in the field of Sonography education.



Salary: $117,500 to $132,500 depending on qualifications and experience. Position includes full university benefits package including tuition remission.
