The Attending Veterinarian (AV) is responsible for ensuring the clinical care of all the animals in the Animal Care Program at the University of Maine. The AV is all responsible for ensuring compliance with the Federal regulations as well as ensuring that researchers are appropriately trained in the procedures being performed. Typical hiring range for this part-time (10 hours/week) position is $30,000 to $32,500 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications:
Required:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an AVMA accredited institution.
  • A Drug Enforcement Administration's controlled substance permit.
  • A Maine DVM license.
  • Maintain state veterinary licensure and federal accreditation through continuing education credits.
  • Sufficient time in private practice or laboratory animal medicine to gain competency in veterinary herd health, clinical medicine, and surgery skills.

Preferred:

ACLAM diplomate or other specialty board certification.
