SCHEDULE
- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday
- 6:00am-12:00pm; average 25 hours per week
This is a part-time position. Days and hours of work may vary based on the needs of the position. Early morning, evening and weekend work may be required.
POSITION SUMMARY
This position will be responsible for the KU Memorial Unions catering Grab-and-Go line and assist with other catering production prep and distribution of catering materials for events. All catering staff members will provide exceptional customer service through the preparation, transportation, and execution of catering events and food orders. The person in this position must follow proper food handling, storage, and health code standards set by HACCP, KDHE, and Serv Safe. Will drive the catering truck for food delivery. Assists in organizing and leading a team of employees, when needed, to execute large catering orders.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF ALL KU MEMORIAL UNION POSITIONS
- Adhere to University and KU Memorial Union policies and procedures.
- Support the KU Memorial Unions lines of effort, initiatives, and End State as described by the Executive Director, and work to achieve and uphold the department’s mission and core values: community, dignity, empowerment, excellence, innovation, and safety.

- Always exhibit professional decorum while representing the KU Memorial Unions and the University, including routine events and meetings that occur outside of the office, around campus, and out in the community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Process, prepare, and deliver orders to the client in a friendly and professional manner.
- Assist with prep-cooking for the grab-and-go line and prepping other items for catering events as needed. This may include using kitchen knives and other cookware tools to wash, peel, cut produce, season, slice meat, and prepare sauces and salads.
- Responsible for printing meal labels for the grab-and-go line.
- Responsible for organizing and packing the grab-and-go line for delivery orders.
- Load and unload food and catering supplies on and off catering vehicles and carts.
- Drive the catering van or assigned vehicle to deliver the grab-and-go line to various units across the Lawrence, KS campus locations.
- Be prepared to answer client catering-related questions and address concerns or requests.
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Sous Chef or their designee.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or the equivalent GED.
- Minimum of three (3) years of previous restaurant or kitchen catering experience.
- Proficiency with various kitchen tools, cutlery, food preparation and food service.
- Must be knowledgeable or able to learn current food health and safety regulations.
- Be reliable, work well in fast-paced environments, organized, efficient and have strong communication skills.
- Must be able and willing to follow the Uniform and Appearance policy and guidelines in a manner that reflects professionalism and competence.
- Ability and willingness to achieve and maintain the ServSafe Certification.
- Ability to maintain a valid state issued driver's license and an acceptable driving record in accordance with company policy and insurance requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- ServSafe Certified.
- Knowledge of University of Kansas campus buildings and dining locations.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word & Excel.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This role requires the ability to stand for extended periods, as well as frequent walking, bending, reaching, and stooping to carry out food preparation, setup, and service tasks. Must be able to lift and transport items weighing up to 50 pounds, including food trays, beverage containers, and catering equipment. Manual dexterity is essential for handling kitchen tools and packaging materials. For deliveries, the position also involves sitting for prolonged periods while driving, safely loading and unloading items from vehicles, and navigating various weather conditions. Effective verbal and written communication with team members, clients, and guests is also an important part of the position.
Environment
The kitchen environment may involve exposure to hot surfaces, steam, refrigeration units, and sharp utensils, as well as the use of cleaning chemicals. Work may take place in noisy or fast-paced conditions, especially during peak service times. When conducting catering deliveries, may encounter variable weather conditions, uneven surfaces, and limited access to equipment or facilities. The role may also require early morning, evening, weekend, or holiday shifts depending on event schedules. Additionally, may spend time driving, which includes exposure to traffic, varied road conditions, and the physical demands of loading and unloading catering supplies.
