The ADR maintains their own research program, works with faculty to advance their research portfolios to align with the SON strategic framework and the KUMC research initiatives, and leads the School’s Office of Grants and Research. As a research leader on the KUMC campus, the ADR collaborates closely with other schools, departments, and external stakeholders, represents and advocates for nursing science related to campus and university wide research initiatives, and serves on designated research committees.

Job Description
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement a comprehensive research strategy for the SON.
- Facilitate fundable and sustainable research and scholarship programs for the school; pursue diverse external funding sources that support the research and scholarship mission.
- Cultivate internal and external research partnerships to promote interdisciplinary, team‑based science and scholarship.
- Work with faculty to identify and refine research focus areas aligned with current and emerging funding opportunities.
- Collaborate with the Department Chairs and Salina Campus Dean to support the research and scholarship of faculty through mentorship.
- Serve as a consultant to faculty on funding opportunities, research proposal development, study methodology and methods, interpretation of findings, and dissemination of findings.
- Oversee the operations of the Office of Grants and Research.
- Ensure appropriate research administration, faculty and staff effort aligns appropriately with research funding and institutional expectations, integrity of research data and associated electronic databases and safeguarding research‑related physical assets and property.
- Ensure all research activities comply with university, state, and federal requirements for the responsible conduct of research.
- Coordinate staff requirements for implementing research at the school.
- Supervise and evaluate OGR staff and research faculty.
- Manage the OGR budget, including budget forecasting, allocation, monitoring financial status of research projects, and tracking research related outcomes.
- Oversee administration of intramural research funding and monitor the return on investment with funding.
- Collaborate with the Faculty Research Committee on intramural funding decisions.
- Prepares reports as required by the school and university administration, and external agencies.
Required Qualifications
Education:
- PhD in nursing or other health-related field.
Work Experience
- Experience in nursing and/or the health sciences with a record of continuous extramural funding, pre-award and post-award grant management, grant reviewer; consistent with expectations for tenure.
- Experience in research/scholarship dissemination
- Experience advising and mentoring faculty and doctoral students.
Work Experience
- Conducting research involving the nursing discipline.
- Administrative and financial management.
- Research leadership/service at the national and/or international level.
- Eligibility for nursing licensure in Kansas.
