Position Summary
The Riley laboratory consists of a dynamic group of synthetic medicinal chemists and pharmacologists focused on the synthesis and evaluation of natural product-inspired compounds for the treatment of pain and addiction.
Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Characterize small molecules using in vitro receptor assays and/or chemical techniques (e.g., NMR, MS).
- Design, synthesize, and purify small molecules.
- Keep accurate records of experiments suitable for writing manuscripts and grant proposals.
- Prepare written manuscripts, operating procedures, and patent applications.
- Participate in weekly group meeting discussions and presentations.
- Mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
- Assist in the maintenance of laboratory supplies and instrumentation.
- Comply with University & Department safety policies.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- PhD in chemistry, medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, chemical biology, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience conducting assays for GPCR and/or ion channels.
- Previous experience in planning and conducting complex, multi-step organic synthesis.
- Previous publications in the field of medicinal chemistry.
