Salary: The budgeted salary range for the position is $200,000 to $350,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.

Position Summary
The Department of Pathology at the University of Illinois in Chicago is seeking a full-time academic General Surgical Pathologist to join our faculty as an expert consultant on either the tenure track or non-tenure track. Rank and tenure will be commensurate with the candidate's experience, qualifications, and funding.

UI Health is an enterprise that includes a 470-bed tertiary care hospital, 30 outpatient clinics, and patient-centered research entities including the University of Illinois Cancer Center. The University of Illinois College of Medicine Chicago is one of three campuses that make up the nation's largest public medical school. The Department of Pathology in the College of Medicine provides testing in all major disciplines including microbiology, chemistry, hematology, transfusion medicine, HLA/transplant, and molecular pathology including next-generation sequencing, along with an active surgical pathology and cytopathology service. The UIC Department of Pathology is among the country's fastest-growing academic departments and is structured to provide a unique environment to foster the development of academic careers. UIC is the country's largest and most diverse medical school and ranks among the top colleges of medicine in the growth of extramural grant funding.

Responsibilities:
  • Providing diagnostic expertise in general surgical pathology.
  • Participation in teaching for medical students, residents, fellows, and house staff.
  • Participation in research as a collaborator and/or primary investigator. The successful applicant will have experience in general surgical pathology and may have additional subspecialty expertise. Applicants must have strong leadership and interpersonal skills and willingness to work closely with other clinical services.

Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must hold a MD, DO, MD/PhD, or DO/PhD degree from an accredited institution, be eligible for medical licensure in Illinois and have board certification in Anatomic Pathology (AP) or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP) by the American Board of Pathology.

Preferred Qualifications
Fellowship training or significant experience in general Surgical Pathology is preferred.
