The Department of Health Sciences Education and Pathology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria (UICOMP) seeks a Physiologist to join our teaching faculty.

Position Summary

The individual in this position will contribute to the education of medical students; participate in service opportunities within the department, campus, and college; and actively engage in medical education research and/or scholarly activities.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver medical physiology and pathophysiology curriculum that incorporates clinically relevant principles using currently available technology, including educational modules, video, virtual reality, etc. to support the undergraduate medical curriculum.
  • Employ multiple methods of pedagogy, including case-based instruction, large- and small-group discussion, lecture, demonstration, simulation, and team-based learning.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty from other basic science/clinical science departments and across UI COM campuses to implement curriculum, including course schedules, materials, and exams.
  • Develop, review, and modify formative and summative assessments, including NBME style multiple choice questions.
  • Engage in medical education scholarship.
  • Serve on selected department, campus and college committees or taskforces as requested/assigned.
  • Facilitate a minimum of 3-4 core cases for each curriculum block either in large or small group.
  • Serve in academic leadership roles (Block Lead, Block Director, Course Director)
  • Provide an exemplar professional, safe learning environment for medical students
  • Serve as an academic faculty student advisor during pre-clerkship curriculum
  • Collaborate to develop clinical electives and potential areas of integration into clinical rotations
  • Serve as a student advisor within curricular programs
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD/DO or its foreign equivalent, PhD
  • Clinical correlation of broad physiology application
  • Experience in medical education with evidence of strong educational effectiveness
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary setting
  • A demonstrated commitment to fostering a professional learning environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated excellence in medical education
  • Experience in the development and delivery of curricular materials
  • Previous experience with administrative responsibilities in an educational or clinical setting.
  • A record of scholarly activity in the area of physiology (and/or) medical education

The budgeted salary range for the position is $105,000 to $220,000 per year.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
