The Department of Engineering Technology in the Cullen College of Engineering at the University of Houston invites applications for a non-tenure track Instructional Assistant Professor position in Mechanical Engineering Technology, with a nine-month academic appointment. The anticipated start date is Fall 2026.
We seek exceptional educators committed to student success through high-quality, student-centered teaching and the development of innovative, hands-on learning experiences. Successful candidates will contribute to a robust curriculum that supports the department’s academic mission and prepares students for professional practice.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of this position is excellence in teaching, including course preparation, delivery, assessment, and continuous improvement. Instructional faculty may teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Courses may include, but are not limited to: Statics and Dynamics, Systems Dynamics, Solid Mechanics, Machine Design, Computer-Aided Design and Simulation, Engineering Graphics, Quality Control
Additional responsibilities include curriculum development, updating existing courses, participation in assessment and accreditation activities, and service to the department and profession.
Qualifications
The Department of Engineering Technology consists of 29 tenured and tenure-track faculty and maintains modern teaching and research facilities, with annual research expenditures exceeding $4 million. Departmental programs include: 1) Biotechnology, 2) Computer Engineering Technology, 3) Electrical Power Engineering Technology,4) Mechanical Engineering Technology
All programs are housed at the University of Houston at Sugar Land, which features state-of-the-art instructional and laboratory facilities.

Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a closely related field is required.
- Postdoctoral and/or relevant industry experience is preferred.
- Preference will be given to candidates at the Instructional Assistant Professor level; however, outstanding candidates at higher ranks will be considered.
- Demonstrated commitment to effective teaching, mentoring, and inclusive education is required.
