Duties and Responsibilities (NOTE:  *denotes Essential Functions):

  • Position is responsible for contract development and execution with internal campus partners and third parties, Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) program administration, and provides support on a wide variety of administrative responsibilities. 
  • *Serves as a senior advisor to the Athletics Director on revenue sharing and NIL governance, risk exposure, policy shirts, and industry trends. 
  • *Provides department-wide strategic leadership and oversight of the management of NCAA revenue sharing and NIL reporting as required by NCAA, conference, State and University policies.
  • *Works directly with coaches and staff including but not limited to UH Foundation leadership, Ahahui Koa Anuenue leadership, and multi-media rights partner to increase the Department’s revenue sharing and NIL initiatives.
  • *Actively collaborates in all fundraising and revenue generating initiatives related to revenue sharing and NIL.
  • *Oversees design, integration, and continuous improvement of the department’s NIL infrastructure, including technology systems, education programs for student-athletes, coaches and staff, and partner workflows. 
  • *Serves as the primary contracting authority for complex, high-value or strategically significant agreements including, but not limited to, multimedia rights, software and technology agreements, apparel agreements, facility use agreements, game contracts, rentals, and other agreements including but not limited to athletic event agreements, procurement contracts and hotel agreements, as necessary.
  • *Develops and modernizes contract templates, workflows, and quality assurance processes to enhance efficiency and reduce legal exposure. 
  • *Works with University General Counsel to interpret legal and regulatory guidance to address risk, compliance issues, and emerging legal challenges.
  • *Reviews and drafts contracts and agreements to ensure compliance with financial, technical, and legal requirements under federal and state laws, rules, regulations, NCAA bylaws, and university policies. 
  • *At the discretion of the Athletics Director, may serve as liaison to University officials and offices (i.e., Office of General Counsel, Office of Strategic Development and Partnership and/or Risk Management Office). 
  • *Consults with Athletics administrators, program heads and/or other relevant personnel to understand the needs of the program and resolve any questions or issues related to the terms and conditions of the contract and/or agreement.
  • * Oversees Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests ensuring accurate and timely responses, appropriate redactions, documentation protocols, and compliance with state laws.  
  • *Serves as a member of the athletics leadership team, providing strategic direction for the department. Works as a team member to identify, coordinate, evaluate, and solve problem areas.
  • Serves as Sport Administrator of assigned sport(s).   
  • *Reviews department manual, updating policies, guidelines and other pertinent material ensuring compliance with NCAA and conference rules and regulations.
  • *Maintains confidentiality to include but not limited to information, files and records that the incumbent may obtain or possess, in accordance with federal and state laws and University of Hawaii policies.
  • *Maintains collaborative working relationships with administrators and coaches in the department and other college offices and appropriate relationships with members of the media, donors, and other individuals interested in the Athletics Department and assigned sport programs. 
  • Knows, recognizes, and complies with the laws, policies, rules, and regulations governing the University of Hawaii and its employees, and the rules of the NCAA and affiliated conferences as now constituted or as may be amended in the future. Immediately advises the Athletics Director or designee if there are reasonable cause to believe violations, whether by employees, students, or others have occurred or will occur.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in education, business administration, sports administration, business law, arts and sciences, liberal arts, social sciences or related field and six (6) years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for athletic administration with three (3) years of experience in contract development, administration and negotiation, brand partnerships, media rights, revenue generation, development, NIL and/or corporate partnerships; or any equivalent combination of education, and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated. 
  • Advanced and comprehensive knowledge and understanding of a wide range of developing and emerging concepts, principles and methodologies in the area of contract development, administration and negotiation, as well as business administration.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of a wide range of principles, theories, federal and state laws and systems associated with contract development, administration and negotiation, as well as business administration.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand problems from a broad interactive perspective and use reasoning to discern underlying principles and issues when problem solving, and apply creative thinking to resolve problems in new and innovative approaches.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal competence in presenting ideas, concepts and models clearly using persuasion and negotiation to build consensus and cooperation.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, apply word processing and spreadsheet software, and presentation software.
  • For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employeerelations.
  • Knowledge of contract administration, including records development and management.
  • Ability to work effectively and independently under pressure, with frequent interruptions, and remain flexible in handling several concurrent projects with competing deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and sound analyses to a variety of administrative support, program management or related issues.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with a high level of tact, discretion, and diplomacy.
  • Detailed oriented, excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service. 
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet goals in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with people of various backgrounds.
  • Ability to adjust communication style and approach to effectively interact with a wide range of individuals.  
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations, particular those related to NIL and revenue sharing.  


Desirable Qualifications 

  • Experience working in a Division I intercollegiate athletics in administration, revenue generation, NIL, compliance, or marketing.
  • Juris Doctor or Master’s degree in sports management, law, business or related field. 
  • Experience working with student-athletes or professional athletes in matters related to contracts, marketing, sponsorships, or contracts.
  • Specialized knowledge of state and federal laws and UH policies and procedures applicable to contracts and agreements.
  • Knowledge of cost principles; procurement rules; University policies and procedures governing proper management of contracts, leases or other agreements.
  • Experience in legal issues, including but not limited to, contract administration and disclosure of information.
  • Ability to understand and work effectively in Hawai‘i’s multi-cultural society.
