This position typically works Monday- Friday 8am- 5pm. Some weekends and evenings may be required in order to meet the needs of the organization.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Statistics or Mathematics, Data Science, Public Administration or related field.
  • Georgia POST certification in Crime Analysis or related certification from another state.
  • 2 years of experience with data collection, management, and reporting in a law enforcement agency or organization.
  • Experience with GIS
Position Summary
The Crime Analyst I supports campus safety by delivering tactical, strategic, and administrative analysis using crime data and information from various sources. Under supervision, this entry-level position assists in strengthening case investigations, identifying patterns affecting the university community, and guiding the deployment of police resources to enhance safety and security across campus.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret campus crime, incident, and call-for-service data to identify trends and support operational planning.
  • Ability to prepare basic crime maps, charts, and visual summaries using GIS and spreadsheet software.
  • Ability to produce clear, concise written reports and communicate analytical finding to sworn personnel, administrators, and campus partners.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive law enforcement and student information in accordance with FERPA and departmental policies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in the university policing environment, managing multiple assignments at one time and being able to pivot quickly if needed.

Investigative Support:
  • Provide on-demand analytical assistance, when appropriate, during critical incidents or major campus events.
  • Research and compile information from a wide variety of sources to support case investigations.
  • Develop various analytical products to strengthen investigative outcomes, such as timelines, association charts, link analysis, and cell phone analysis.

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret crime and public safety data from multiple sources.
  • Use statistical methods and Geographic Information Systems to identify patterns and trends specific to the university environment.
  • Prepare visual reports, maps, and dashboards to communicate findings to leadership and campus stakeholders.

Administrative Support:
  • Prepare reports, charts, and bulletins for leadership as requested for the purposes of addressing long-term goals or analyzing resource allocation.
  • Respond to internal and external requests for data and information to support decision-making.
  • Maintain and validate data sources for accuracy; assist with quality control for statistical reporting, including Clery Act compliance.

Operational Support:
  • Identify and monitor public safety related trends affecting the university community
  • Synthesize intelligence from external partners to equip police personnel with current, actionable information.
  • Participates in on-the-job training in crime analysis methods, law enforcement databases, and UGPD specific policies and reporting requirements.
  • Learn and apply departmental policies, procedures, and confidentiality standards.
