Summer Academy at UGA serves to support middle and high school students’ development by creating an immersive UGA experience through our academic camps. Day Camp Counselors conduct program activities including field trips, encourage camper engagement, enforce policies, communicate with parents/guardians, supervise campers age 7-17, and respond to situations of conflict or emergency. The position calls for a person with a high degree of maturity, flexibility, effective communication skills, and a desire to work with youth.
Essential Duties
- Facilitate daytime camper check-in, lunch, and check-out each day
- Complete weekly camp preparation tasks such as sorting t-shirts, creating nametags, as well as collecting and distributing supplies to instructors
- Promote engagement of campers in planned daytime activities and field trips
- Transportation of campers via van shuttling, chaperoning on UGA bus, and/or walking
- Assist Programs Supervisors with email and phone communications as needed
Primary Tasks:
- Facilitate check-in and check-out by tracking headcount, actively engaging with students, managing traffic flow, and communicating carpool numbers
- Transport campers via van shuttling, UGA buses, or walking
- Manage and supervise campers in assigned dining areas
- Transport meals to offsite locations, ensuring that each student has received lunch, and occasionally supervising if the instructor is off duty
- Execute weekly camp preparations including working with rosters to create/organize nametags, t-shirts, and instructor rosters
- Organize parent packets for day student check-in
- Load and unload supply deliveries, take an accurate account of supplies, and place them in appropriate bins
- Transport supplies to instructors with correct accountability sheets
- Collect da camp supplies and instructor clipboards each Friday
- Communicate with instructors to offer support related to supplies, camp showcases, and field trips
- Facilitate afternoon activities for extended-day campers
- Assist Logistics Supervisor with cleaning and maintaining UGA vehicles
- Respond to issues and concerns related to first aid and/or health
- Attend and actively participate in staff meetings
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:
- Effectively interact with middle- and high school aged campers to create a positive and welcoming environment in which campers can learn
- Express enthusiasm about UGA through sharing information about on-campus opportunities and resources
- Maintain a standard of excellence through assessing and improving program functions
- Display professionalism through punctuality, adherence to staff dress code and preparation for scheduled activities
- Employ positive communication and exceptional customer service skills through interactions with campers, parents/guardians, staff, and instructors involved with Summer Academy
- Implement proactive problem-solving skills to resolve issues that may arise during employment
- Demonstrate knowledge of and execute Summer Academy policies, procedures, and Codes of Conduct
Day Camp Counselors will start work on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. This temporary position will conclude on July 18, 2025.

Pay: $13.80 per hour
