Job Description:

Administration:

Staff of the IACUC office work collaboratively and cross train in a variety of IACUC related responsibilities including serving as a liaison between the research community and the IACUC during protocol review, conducting audits and/or monitoring research activities for compliance with applicable federal, state and university guidelines and regulations, assisting with semiannual facility inspections, preparation of reports and memorandums, AAALAC preparation, and assisting in other regulatory activities as needed.

Identify and analyze various information sources such as federal agency guidelines, publications and manuals to determine the impact of changes on the use of humans/animals in research; works closely with the General Counsel’s Office as these federal and state changes occur.

Submissions and Reviews:

Conduct reviews of IACUC protocol submissions, assist Principal Investigators and other research personnel with protocol submissions. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining a working knowledge on the applicable federal rules and regulations that safeguard rights and welfare of subjects in relation to protocol submissions.

Serve as liaison with faculty, staff, students, other administrative and research staffs within the University.

Training and Education:

Contribute and assist in formulating and implementing policies and procedures, training program development, collaborating with researchers and stakeholders regarding issues and changed within IACUC’s purview for researchers and IACUC committee.

IACUC Committee Support:

Attend IACUC meetings and take actionable steps as needed in response to meeting action items. Provide support to the IACUC committee through various special projects.

Expected Salary:

Commensurate with Education and Experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and two years of experience in appropriate area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in biology, life science, or related field, and four (4) years of experience in biomedical research or regulatory affairs. Experience must have been obtained in facilities utilizing NIH funding that follow requirements set forth by OLAW, as well as the AAALAC Int'l, and the USDA.

Strong preference for individuals with a proven track record as an IACUC coordinator, animal research lab manager, animal husbandry, or veterinarian technician.

Certification as an AALAS technician (ALAS, LAT, or LATG) or Certified Professional IACUC Administrator (CPIA) preferred. Certified Professional in IACUC Administration (CPIA).

Detail-oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong interpersonal skills, having the ability to interact with people from a wide range of scientific and medical experience.

Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access and other appropriate programs.
