Job Description

Perform monthly preventative maintenance inspection of buildings. Perform necessary building maintenance and repairs as needed. Responsible for developing and overseeing a structured custodial cleaning schedule, including floor waxing, HVAC vent cleaning, carpet and tile maintenance, and workflow coordination for custodial staff. Provide necessary feedback to Director of building status. Assist Director with new construction projects approved for PSREU.

Paint or repair roofs, windows, doors, floors, woodwork, plaster, drywall, plumbing, countertops, shelves or other parts of building structures. Record type and cost of maintenance or repair work with estimate costs to repair machinery, equipment or repair structures. Scheduling and tracking of routine maintenance tasks, such as gutter cleaning, air compressor servicing, pressure washing, parking lot debris removal, landscaping (mulching and trimming), and ensuring backflow certifications are up to date. Oversee inventory of equipment, tools, supplies, and perform price comparison between various options.

Perform general cleaning duties of buildings or property. Provides grounds keeping service such as landscaping or tree debris removal. Ability to supervise labor performing these tasks.

Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them. Checking blueprints, repair manuals or parts catalogs as necessary. Inspect private contractors work for satisfaction and completion. Assemble, install or repair pipe systems or plumbing. Helps in catastrophic events around the state with emergency response for IFAS. Oversee workers when assigned to team.

Assist with setting up electronics, meeting rooms, sound systems and all other duties involved when preparing for classes, tours and events held at PSREU.

Perform monthly fuel tank inspections and submit fuel logs for annual inspection. Perform fuel tank/gauge/pump repair as needed.

Perform building lockdown at the close of the business each day. Maintain all portable and set generators for emergency power outages. Perform monthly checks on set generators.

Completes annual Fire Marshall Assessment of all buildings and corrects any violations and/or ADA regulations noted during inspection. Monthly fire marshal inspections.

Responsible for maintaining equipment used in research operations, also general upkeep of grounds and buildings in work area. Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Operation of state and farm vehicles in the performance of job duties.

Expected Salary

Up to $23.16 per hour

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience in the field or in a related area.

Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License.

Preferred

Knowledge of proper use of mechanical and carpentry tools

Knowledge of building components such as plumbing, HVAC, ventilation, drainage, etc.

Ability to follow instruction in a safe and efficient manner.

Ability to work effectively with others.

Ability to work with limited supervision

Basic computer skills to effectively be able to keep maintenance logs and research repair parts and supplies.

Able to positively communicate both orally and written.

Monday - Thursday – 10 hour days, 7am to 5:30pm totaling 40 hours a week. Periodic overtime when required to meet emergencies and flexible hours with potential overnight stays. Employee may be called in for freeze protection weekend/emergency response/holiday/ greenhouse checks.

Working conditions can be noisy, hot and dusty at times. Some travel may be required. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Job requires, standing, kneeling, bending, climbing, stooping, and walking.
