The University of Evansville (UE) is seeking a dedicated and organized Academic Advisor to join the Office of Academic Services. This position is vital to supporting the mission of the University by directly assisting students in achieving their educational goals. Key Responsibilities

  • The Academic Advisor will provide essential guidance and support across various student populations and academic needs. Your main duties will include:
  • Student Advising & Success: Work with undeclared students to support major exploration and guide all students in setting goals, improving time management, and developing effective academic/study skills.
  • Academic Distress Intervention: Assist students in academic distress by helping them create intervention plans and access appropriate campus resources.
  • Program Guidance: Provide clear guidance to students regarding program requirements, the General Education curriculum, graduation requirements, and institutional academic policies.
  • Specialized Programs: Meet regularly with students assigned to the Academic Restoration and Student Success Programs.
  • Proactive Outreach: Engage in proactive outreach to students concerning absences, early alerts, and other academic indicators.
  • Workshops & Registration: Provide one-on-one advising and develop/run workshops for students on general registration processes and other topics relevant to academic needs. Provide drop-in services to classrooms for skills building.
  • Communications: Create and distribute communication and advertisements for Academic Services related content.
  • Program Oversight: Oversee the peer coaching program, including hiring, scheduling, and hours approval.
  • Professional Development: Engage in continuous professional development independently and as part of the Academic Advising team.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: A Bachelor of Science (BS) degree.
  • Skills: Excellent customer service skills, highly organized, and an avid learner.
  • Attributes: Willingness to work effectively in a constantly changing and busy higher education environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in higher education, particularly in academic advising, student services, or a related field, is highly recommended.
