Position Summary

Are you interested in taking your CNC Programing and machining skills to the next level while working for a growing organization? Do you like sharing what you know with others? Do you like to travel? UDRI is seeking a CAD/CAM Programming trainer to assist the Air Force Metal Fabrication and Technologies Office (AFMFTO) with their support of Air Force fabrication shops worldwide.

This position is an in-person position located in Warner Robins, Georgia.

University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI) is seeking an experienced CAD/CAM programmer to develop and provide technical training in both CNC programming and CNC machine tool operations. As well, this person will support the AFMFTO sustainment activities at the Advanced Technology and Training Center - Middle Georgia (ATTC-MG) by providing programming and machining support, design for manufacturability guidance, call-in support to shops for Mastercam and Haas troubleshooting, and other related activities. Due to the nature of this role, ability to acquire and maintain a CAC is required.

Traveling between customer sites, offices, or job locations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in a technical field plus four (4) years of relevant experience in CNC programming and machining

OR

High school diploma plus ten (10) years relevant experience in CNC programming and machining

  • Experience using CAD/CAM and programming for 2, 3, 4 and 5-axis CNC machines (Mastercam experience preferred).
  • Experience operating 2, 3, 4 and 5-axis CNC machines, preferably Haas machines, including at-machine edits.
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in interacting with design and manufacturing engineers and other technical personnel, providing guidance around design for manufacturability.
  • Prior experience training or mentoring others in CAD/CAM programming and CNC machine tool operations.
  • Ability to read technical drawings.
  • Practical experience using/applying/interpreting drawings with geometric dimensioning and tolerances (GD&T)
  • Experience using precision measurement equipment, such as micrometers, Vernier calipers, dial indicators, optical comparators, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Self-starter with ability to operate with minimal supervision.
  • Effective verbal communication skills with team members at all levels
  • Organizational skills
  • Able to lift fifty (50) pounds.
  • Able to travel (~15%) of time. Includes both national and international locations.
  • Possess a valid passport or ability to obtain a passport within sixty (60) days of hire.
  • Valid drivers license with low risk driving record.
  • Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen.

Preferred Qualifications

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

  • Mastercam Training certificate.
  • Prior experience developing and providing training in a formal educational setting for both Mastercam programming and CNC machine tool operations.
  • Experience designing with SolidWorks, certification is a plus.
  • Geometric dimensioning and tolerances (GD&T) certificate.
  • An understanding of additive manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • 4 years’ experience in programming, set-up, operation and troubleshooting Additive Manufacturing equipment (i.e. Stratasys Polymer 3D Printers, EOS M290 printing system).
