Scope of Position :

This position is responsible for providing operational leadership and administrative oversight for the Department of Neurology and ambulatory clinics within the UConn Health Brain & Spine Institute. Responsibilities include planning, directing, and overseeing administrative, financial, strategic, and operational functions to support high-quality, patient-centered care across neuroscience ambulatory services.

Supervision Received :

Reports to the Chief Operating Officer, UMG and Vice President of Ambulatory Operations.

Supervision Exercised :

Supervises employees of a lower grade including Advanced Practice Providers. Provides support to Practice Managers, Assistant Nursing Managers, Clinical Practice Managers, coordinators, and other staff as needed.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities :

  • Supports operations and service delivery with a focus on safety, patient satisfaction, quality, and strong financial management.

  • Ensures programmatic excellence, rigorous evaluation, and consistent quality outcomes across Neurology services, and potentially Neurosurgery with collaboration with Comprehensive Spine.

  • Develops operational plans incorporating goals and objectives aligned with the strategic direction of the Brain & Spine Institute and UConn Health.

  • Participates in strategic planning initiatives and drives short- and long-term goals for neuroscience ambulatory care.

  • Serves as advisor to the COO and Vice President on matters concerning the activities of the Neurology and potentially Neurosurgery practices.

  • Reviews new, reclassification, and refill position requests for operations and ensures alignment with organizational strategy.

  • Collaborates with leaders and providers to advance quality, patient safety, operational alignment, caregiver engagement, financial value, and provider satisfaction.

  • Oversees large-scale initiatives and implementation projects across ambulatory practices.

  • Supports population health, care management, and outreach activities relevant to neurology and Brain & spine patients.

  • Collaborates with supervisory and managerial staff, department chairs, and program heads to maintain high levels of quality across assigned practices.

  • Designs and implements work processes to meet patient and service needs in a cost-effective manner while maintaining appropriate staffing and productivity.

  • Creates and communicates a vision that motivates staff to pursue high standards of excellence.

  • Manages patient concerns and issues, resolving them promptly and identifying opportunities to prevent recurrence.

People Management and Oversight

  • Provides leadership in talent assessment, succession planning, clinical quality, financial management, and operational performance.

  • Directs human resource activities including hiring, discipline, grievances, and performance evaluations.

  • Partners with Human Resources to develop workforce strategies including employee engagement, competency development, and labor management.

  • Serves as a key strategic operations leader for labor management and collective bargaining responsibilities.

Financial Management and Regulatory Oversight

  • Oversees contracts related to neuroscience ambulatory operations, including new, existing, and renewal requests.

  • Assists with budget development and monitors budgets for all assigned practice locations.

  • Ensures alignment with financial performance goals and identifies opportunities for improvement.

  • Prepares and analyzes financial and non-financial reports to assess operational changes and performance.

  • Participates in variance meetings and improvement planning.

  • Develops and manages operating and capital budgets for assigned services.

  • Ensures regulatory compliance with Joint Commission, DPH, and other regulatory agencies.

  • Participates in organizational-wide initiatives and committees representing ambulatory practices.

Minimum Qualification Required :

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of ambulatory practice operations and healthcare management systems.

  • Knowledge of neuroscience ambulatory workflows, specialty care delivery, and multidisciplinary coordination.

  • Financial, analytical, and strategic planning skills.

  • Knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.

  • Interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage complex operations, and drive performance improvement.

  • Proficiency in computer systems, word processing, and spreadsheets.

Experience & Training Requirements :

  • Master's degree in business administration, healthcare management, public health, or related field.

  • Four (4) years of professional experience in ambulatory operations, preferably within neuroscience, surgical specialties, or an integrated healthcare system.

  • At least three (3) years of supervisory or management experience.

  • Experience managing regulatory clinical requirements and compliance monitoring.

  • Nursing license

  • May be required to travel within the State.
