At UConn Health, this position is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the UConn Health Retail Pharmacy Services unit, which includes the planning, administration, and coordination of quality patient care, safety, and services. This position will work in the Blue Oak Pharmacy located on the UConn Health Campus, 100 Hospital Drive, Farmington, CT and will provide coverage at UConn Health Pharmacy Services, Inc. located at the Exchange on Farmington Avenue.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP :

Works under the general direction of the Director, Retail Pharmacy Department.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED :

Supervises and manages the staff of the Retail Pharmacy Services unit.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Supervise and manage pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, technicians, and support personnel.

Ensure compliance with all state and federal pharmacy laws and regulations.

Oversee medication dispensing processes to ensure accuracy and patient safety.

Manage the pharmacy's inventory and ensure proper storage of medications.

Develop and implement policies and procedures for pharmacy operations.

Provide clinical consultations and advice to patients and healthcare providers.

Handle and resolve customer complaints or issues in a professional manner.

Conduct regular audits to ensure adherence to protocols and standards.

Maintain records of all transactions and ensure proper documentation.

Coordinate with healthcare providers to optimize patient care plans.

Educate and mentor pharmacy staff in best practices and new developments.

Monitor the performance metrics and financial health of the pharmacy.

Participate in community outreach and educational programs.

Ensure the proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.

Stay updated with the latest developments in pharmacy practice and healthcare.

Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:

Experience in leadership or supervisory role in a pharmacy setting

Strong knowledge of pharmacy software systems and technology

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Proven ability to manage a team effectively

Experience with regulatory compliance and quality assurance processes

Advanced problem-solving and decision-making skills

Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously

Strong customer service orientation

Proficiency in pharmacy software and electronic health records systems

Strong understanding of pharmacology, therapeutics, and pharmaceutical calculations

Excellent leadership and management skills

Ability to communicate effectively with patients, staff, and healthcare providers

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Commitment to ongoing professional development

Knowledge of state and federal regulations governing pharmacy practice

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

General Experience:

Bachelor of Pharmacy, Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or master's degree from an accredited program

Five (5) years of licensed pharmacy experience

One (1) year of experience in supervisory role.

SUBSTITUTION ALLOWED:

Master of Business Administration (MBA) may substitute for one (1) year of general experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess and maintain during employment Pharmacist licensure in the State of Connecticut

May be required to work off shift, weekend, and holiday hours.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Immunization certification for State of Connecticut

Additional certifications in areas like diabetes education, medication therapy management, or BLS certification

Current knowledge of pharmacy software applications such as QS1/PioneerRx, Epic-WAM.

Current knowledge of pharmacy distribution practices including cold chain and vaccine handling

Recent retail pharmacy management experience of at least 2 years

Experience working on a healthcare campus in pharmacy role

Preceptor experience with Pharmacy students

WORKING CONDITIONS:

May be required to travel within the state of Connecticut.

May be exposed to hazardous materials, infectious/communicable diseases, and disagreeable conditions. May require extended periods of standing, repetitive motions and lifting or moving boxes of medications and supplies.

WORK SCHEDULE: Full time, primarily Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., on-call responsibilities as scheduled. Other shifts, holidays and weekends as assigned to support departmental needs.
