Job Summary

The Children's Center at CU Boulder welcomes applications for the Lead Teacher/Infant Program Supervisor position! This role provides childcare for children of families affiliated with the University of Colorado including; faculty, staff, students, and alumni, in addition to families of the wider Boulder community. This position is situated in the CU Children’s Center and provides a nurturing and safe environment for a diverse population of children ages 6 weeks to age 8.

This position in collaboration with assistant teacher and the directors, serves by developing and implementing lesson plans, teaching developmentally appropriate curriculum, trains Assistant Teachers, university student employees and volunteers and directs information for evaluation of students employees, volunteers and children. This position aids in providing information towards working with families. Additionally the position writes and implements age appropriate activity and lesson plans for educational and recreational purposes; supervises and interacts with infants and children in the assigned classroom using appropriate guidance techniques; ensures a safe environment and safe conditions on the playground; prepares for lunch, snack and nap time; consults with parents regarding the needs of ill children or children with behavioral problems; maintains or exceeds health standards; and completes reports concerning child development and other center needs. This position may include supervision of classroom staff. Positional duties from the requested class title include writing lesson plans, implementing activities to meet individual needs, leading other staff, and consulting with parents to discuss behavior/development.

The Children’s Center is licensed through the Colorado Department of Early Childhood.

Responsibilities

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Professionalism/Classroom Quality

  • Planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum by using available resources, creating activities, meeting individual children’s needs, and maintains the classroom areas which include science, math, language, arts, large and small motor, art, multicultural. Is familiar with and follows all ITERS, ECERS and Colorado Shines standards. Is familiar with and consistently adheres to and exceeds all childcare licensing rules and regulations.

Administrative/Supervision

  • Directly leads and trains Teacher Assistant and provides guidance as needed for students, assistants and volunteers. Responsible for leading 8 hours of orientation mentoring these positions on meeting and exceeding all childcare licensing rules and regulations. Supervises and interacts with children by planning and implementing age-appropriate activities, with the use of age-appropriate materials. Uses appropriate Guidance Techniques. Keeps clear, comprehensive, and accurate records, (Attendance, Name-to-Face verification, Children’s records, all other paperwork).

Communication/Parent Contact

  • Maintains channels of communication with teaching teams and office in an effective and timely manner. Maintains confidentiality in all communication. Completes written reports as necessary including twice-yearly parent/teacher conferences, weekly updates and monthly newsletters to parents, student file notes, accident reports, etc. Provides information to parents about their child by parent app entries and discussion at arrival and departure time, written communications, and/or telephone calls. Provides positive customer service and information, handles difficult situations with finesse. Helps parents to understand behavior and development.

Health & Safety

  • Records the time a child arrives and leaves the Center each day and completes attendance verification (Name-to-Face sheet) throughout the day. Ensuring that each child is under direct, active supervision both indoors and outdoors, including nap time. Maintaining correct staff to child ratio and group sizes at all times. Supports safety of children by monitoring indoor and outdoor equipment, communicating any concerns to the director. Maintains health standards following procedures for food preparation, diapering, medication administration, etc. Remains current on certifications including CPR, First Aid, Child Abuse, Medication Administration.

Professional Development

  • Assures continual professional growth by attending all staff meetings, staff in-service days, and trainings through the online Professional Development Information System (PDIS). Demonstrates flexibility in scheduling, working with different levels of staff, and handling a variety of situations. Seeks out research on advances in early education and shares information with center staff.

The salary range is for this position is $51,700 and $56,100.

What We Require

  • The Infant Program Supervisor must have one year of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position and meet at least one (1) of the following qualifications:
    • A Registered Nurse, licensed to practice in Colorado, with a minimum of three (3) months (455 hours) of verifiable experience in the care and supervision of infants who are not related to the individual; or,
    • A Licensed Practical Nurse, licensed to practice in Colorado, a minimum of nine (9) months (1,365 hours) of verifiable experience in the care and supervision of infants who are not related to the individual; or,
    • An adult who holds a certificate in infant and toddler care from an accredited college or university with completion of a minimum of thirty (30) semester credit hours in the development and care of infants and toddlers in a group setting; or,
    • An adult who is currently certified as a child development associate (CDA) in: Center-Based, Preschool; Center-Based, Infant-Toddler; or Family Child Care; and has completed the Infant/Toddler Theory and Practice or has been issued the Expanding Quality in Infant and Toddler Care Training certificate of completion; or,
    • An adult who holds a current Early Childhood Professional Credential Level II or higher in Version 3.0, as determined by the Department, has a minimum of nine (9) months (1,365 hours) of verifiable experience in the care and supervision of infants and/or toddlers, and: (a) Has completed one (1) three (3) semester credit hour course in Infant/Toddler Development; or, (b) Has completed the Department-approved Expanding Quality in Infant and Toddler Care training course.
    • An adult who: (a) Is at least nineteen (19) years of age; (b) Is qualified as an Early Childhood Teacher (Section 7.702.45, A); (c) Has a minimum of nine (9) months (1,365 hours) of verifiable experience in the group care of infants or toddlers; and, (d) Has completed at least two (2) three (3)-semester credit hour courses from an accredited college or university on the development and care of infants and toddlers in a group setting, one (1) of which must be: (i) Infant/Toddler Development; or, (ii) The Department-approved Expanding Quality in Infant and Toddler Care training course; or,
    • An adult who: (a) Is at least nineteen (19) years of age; (b) Is qualified as an Early Childhood Teacher (Section 7.702.45, A); (c) Has a minimum of one (1) year and nine (9) months (3,185 hours) of verifiable experience in the group care and supervision of infants or toddlers; and, (d) Will complete, within the first six (6) months of employment, two (2) three (3)-semester credit hour courses from an accredited college or university, one (1) of which must be: (i) Infant/Toddler Development; or, (ii) The Department-approved Expanding Quality in Infant and Toddler Care training course.
  • Additional Requirements
    • Staff members must be current for all immunizations routinely recommended for adults by their health care provider and CU.
    • All staff members must submit to the center a medical statement, signed and dated by a physician or other health care provider, verifying that they are in good mental, physical, and emotional health appropriate for the position for which they have been hired. This statement must be dated no more than six (6) months prior to employment or within thirty (30) calendar days after the first date of employment.
    • Staff members must follow all required background check requirements as required in the General Rules for Child Care Facilities.
What You Will Need

  • Ability to provide a high-quality environment nurturing a diverse population of team members, families, and CUCC children ages 6 weeks through age 8.
  • Demonstrated skills to lead, develop, supervise, plan and teach a developmentally appropriate curriculum; train and supervise an assistant teacher and university student employees; and implement family programs while modeling appropriate language and behaviors.
  • Growth mindset, team mentality and willingness to collaborate and be flexible to meet the changing needs of the center.
  • Competency in computer applications such as Microsoft Suite of programs, parent communication applications and Teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

What We Would Like You To Have

Three plus years of experience working in a licensed early childhood center with infants and/or toddlers and/or preschoolers, or a combination thereof.
