What are the responsibilities and job description for the CASE (Senior) Scientists/Scholars Affiliated with a Unit position at University of Chicago?
Membership Summary A UChicago CASE (Senior) Scientist/Scholar Affiliated with a Unit will have the following privileges: Access to UChicago facilities and the library Serve as a PI or co-investigator on grant applications at the University Charge their time to grants at the University without a subcontract Purchase equipment via the University for use on University-administered grants Hire and supervise staff at the University Co-supervise and co-mentor students and postdocs Authority to approve membership Affiliated with a Unit will be delegated by the Provost to the Division/School in which the unit resides. The Division/School within which the academic unit is situated will be responsible for setting the criteria and approval process required for affiliated membership. The criteria and process for affiliation may differ for different Divisions and Schools. The details of these processes will be communicated by the Division/School to the RNL so that the Steering Committee understands the criteria at time of renewal. To prevent undue burden on the administrative unit, the transition process from at-Large to Affiliated membership after approval by the Division/School has been granted will be administered by the RNL. The Division/School will be responsible for providing grant administration and human resources support for the affiliated scientists/scholars. RNL will oversee the reimbursement process and/or the effort reconciliation process with the participating institutions to provide expertise and ensure proper execution. --- Application Instructions To be accepted into UChicago CASE, applicants must be approved by the University and the home institution. An application for UChicago CASE membership should include the applicant’s rationale for seeking membership, a description of the proposed research or scholarly activities to be undertaken, the University unit where collaborations currently exist or will be established, and a list of existing or possible faculty collaborators, a current CV, and a memo of support from the applicant’s cognizant supervisor of the home institution. In addition, the applicant must follow any internal process established at the home institution for potential UChicago CASE membership.
