Position Overview

This is a regular student technical position which serves as the Student Graphic Designer that supports the College of Fine Arts and Design Marketing and Communications Office in creating high-quality print and digital marketing materials that promote performances, exhibitions, academic programs and special events. Working under the direction of the college's professional marketing team, the Student Graphic Designer will assist in developing cohesive marketing campaigns by adapting established designs into a wide variety of print and digital assets, while occasionally creating original designs for select projects.

This position offers hands-on experience in a fast-paced, collaborative marketing environment and is ideal for a creative, dependable student who is passionate about visual communication, eager to grow professionally and able to work independently.

Hours per Week

Up to 25 hours per week, Monday-Friday, between 8am-5pm.

College/Department Overview

The College of Fine Arts and Design is a center of excellence for the arts and design, combining the traditional strengths of Oklahoma's oldest public educational institution with fresh thinking about the role of the arts in the 21st century. Founded in 2001, the college is home to six academic units — the Department of Art, Department of Dance, School of Design, Department of Theatre Arts, School of Music and the Academy of Contemporary Music — and holds specialized accreditations from NASM, NASAD and CIDA.

Department Specific Job Functions

  • Design print and digital marketing materials that promote College of Fine Arts and Design performances, exhibitions, academic programs and special events, primarily by adapting approved campaigns into formats such as social media graphics, digital signage, website graphics, email graphics, advertisements and print materials.
  • Occasionally develop original creative concepts and designs for assigned marketing projects.
  • Create engaging motion graphics and simple animated content for digital marketing campaigns.
  • Prepare production-ready files for print and digital distribution using established industry standards.
  • Follow university branding standards and department design guidelines to maintain a consistent visual identity.
  • Ensure marketing materials meet accessibility standards, including typography, color contrast and other digital accessibility requirements.
  • Organize project files using the department's established file naming and shared folder structure.
  • FF9Revise designs based on feedback from the marketing team while managing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Collaborate with professional staff to brainstorm creative solutions and contribute ideas during project development.
  • Assist with occasional photography, image editing or other creative projects as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Enrollment Requirements

Fall/Spring Semesters: All student employees must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half-time enrollment for fall/spring semesters is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. F1/J1 Visa students must be enrolled full-time to be eligible to work as a student employee. Full-time enrollment is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.

Summer Semester: To work in a regular student position during the summer semester, students must be enrolled in at least 3 summer credit hours or be enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in the minimum credit hours required for their classification and employment type. Students enrolled in fewer than 3 summer credit hours will be subject to FICA taxes during the summer term, which apply to both the student and the department. For Federal Work Study Program (FWSP) positions, students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours (undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (graduate).

Note: New incoming students are not eligible for student employment until the semester in which they begin classes.

Enrollment Exception: If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of hours needed to graduate and anticipated graduation date) and submit it to Human Resources. This pertains to both regular and Federal Work Study Program positions. Contact jobs@uco.edu for more information.

Qualifications/Experience Required

A portfolio demonstrating strong design fundamentals and creative problem-solving is required.

Qualifications/Experience Preferred

Coursework in Graphic Design, Visual Communication or a related field preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods
  • Ability to lift or move printed materials, display items or marketing supplies.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
  • Experience with Adobe After Effects or other motion graphics software preferred.
  • Strong understanding of typography, composition, color and visual hierarchy.
  • Ability to adapt existing designs into cohesive marketing materials across multiple formats.
  • Understanding of print production processes and the ability to prepare production-ready files.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
  • Ability to organize project files and maintain consistent file management practices.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Receptive to constructive feedback and willing to revise designs as needed.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Dependable, organized and professional.
  • Sensitivity to intercultural communication.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
