Position Overview

This is a Federal Work Study Program (FWSP) student clerical position which serves as the Campus Promotions Assistant and plays an important role in promoting College of Fine Arts and Design performances, exhibitions and special events across the UCO campus. This position combines hands-on production work, campus outreach and promotional support to help connect students with the arts.

This position is ideal for a dependable, energetic student who enjoys staying active, working independently and interacting with others — someone who's comfortable serving as a friendly ambassador for the college while helping make campus events successful.

Hours per Week

Up to 20 hours per week, Monday-Friday.

Department Specific Job Functions

Production & Materials

  • Prepare promotional materials by trimming posters, flyers and other printed materials using department equipment.
  • Fold concert programs and assemble promotional packets for campus distribution.
  • Produce promotional items, including buttons and giveaways, using department equipment.

Distribution & Display Maintenance

  • Distribute posters, flyers and other promotional materials throughout campus.
  • Install, replace and maintain promotional posters and displays to ensure information remains current and professional.
  • Assist with placing and maintaining yard signs and other outdoor promotional materials.
  • Monitor bulletin boards and other approved posting locations for outdated or damaged promotional materials.

Outreach & Event Support

  • Promote upcoming performances, exhibitions and events by engaging with students in high-traffic campus locations.
  • Answer basic questions about upcoming events and direct students to additional information or ticket resources.
  • Help identify new opportunities to promote events and increase awareness across campus.
  • Support event preparation by assembling displays, preparing materials and completing other promotional projects.

General Support

  • Assist with organizing marketing supplies, promotional inventory and office storage areas.
  • Perform campus deliveries and other departmental errands as assigned.
  • Assist professional staff with special projects and perform other related duties as assigned.

Enrollment Requirements

Fall/Spring Semesters: All student employees must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half-time enrollment for fall/spring semesters is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. F1/J1 Visa students must be enrolled full-time to be eligible to work as a student employee. Full-time enrollment is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.

Summer Semester: To work in a regular student position during the summer semester, students must be enrolled in at least 3 summer credit hours or be enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in the minimum credit hours required for their classification and employment type. Students enrolled in fewer than 3 summer credit hours will be subject to FICA taxes during the summer term, which apply to both the student and the department. For Federal Work Study Program (FWSP) positions, students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours (undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (graduate).

Note: New incoming students are not eligible for student employment until the semester in which they begin classes.

Enrollment Exception: If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of hours needed to graduate and anticipated graduation date) and submit it to Human Resources. FWSP Requirements

To be considered for Federal Work Study Program (FWSP) employment, you must be awarded work study through the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships. Please be aware, the summer FWSP award is a separate application process, and is not included with the fall/spring FWSP award. Contact Financial Aid for more information.

Enrollment requirements for FWSP employment are the same each semester. Undergraduates must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours, and Graduates must be enrolled in a minimum of 5 credit hours. If a student is enrolled in their final semester and the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of remaining credit hours needed to graduate and the anticipated graduation date) and provide the letter to the hiring department for submission to Human Resources. Qualifications/Experience Preferred

Previous customer service, retail, event, volunteer or campus involvement is helpful but not required.

  • Able to walk across campus and stand for extended periods of time while promoting events.
  • Able to lift and carry boxes (up to 25 lbs.) containing promotional materials, signs, and supplies.
  • Able to perform work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
  • Enjoy interacting with people and providing friendly customer service.
  • Comfortable approaching and speaking with fellow students about campus events.
  • Able to work independently while following established priorities and instructions.
  • Takes initiative and demonstrates sound judgment when completing assigned tasks.
  • Dependable, punctual and self-motivated.
  • Organized and detail oriented.
  • Comfortable learning to operate basic office and print production equipment.
  • Able to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Sensitivity to intercultural communication.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
