General Schedule

Position typically works Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm in-office at UCO's main campus in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Position Overview:

Drafts, maintains, and updates detailed CAD (Computer-Aided Design) drawings and technical plans for a wide range of floor plans, building designs, and other spaces/facilities. Collaborates with vendors, architects, project managers, and other personnel to draft and revise plans for construction projects, remodeling and redesign projects, and pre-existing spaces. Responsible for space inventory management, ensuring accurate digital mapping of floor plans and tracking of space utilization data. Oversees the optimization of space planning to support the efficient design and development of various projects.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

  • Create and modify technical drawings (2D/3D) based on specifications from engineers, architects, and designers.
  • Convert sketches and conceptual designs into detailed, accurate CAD drawings (e.g., floor plans, assembly diagrams).
  • Revise and update designs to reflect feedback or changes, ensuring consistency across versions.
  • Create and manage space inventories for architectural or facility design, tracking room dimensions, usage, and square footage.
  • Generate basic 3D models and renderings to visualize designs and assist with client presentations or design approvals.
  • Maintain and organize design documentation and drawing files for easy access and version control.
  • Assist in space planning by optimizing layouts for functionality and efficiency (e.g., office, residential, or industrial spaces).
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, and project managers to align designs with project goals and specifications.
  • Track space utilization and update designs or floor plans based on real-time data or client feedback.
  • Create detailed construction blueprints or manufacturing diagrams for building or product assembly.
  • Assist in project management tasks by ensuring deadlines are met and designs are aligned with overall project timelines.
  • Update and maintain space related information and CAD drawings within the Facilities Administration Management Information System (FAMIS).
  • Prepare space-related reports as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required:

Associate or bachelor’s degree in job related field or 4 years of work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must have a valid driver's license, clean driving record, and be able to operate a typical motor vehicle.

Qualifications Preferred:

Previous experience as a CAD technician within the architecture/construction industry preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks)
  • Understanding of drafting standards (e.g., dimensioning, projection)
  • 3D modeling skills for visualizing and presenting designs
  • Attention to detail for accurate, error-free designs
  • Problem-solving for design challenges and adjustments
  • Spatial awareness for efficient space planning and layout design
  • Knowledge of materials and construction (for architecture/engineering)
  • Time management to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Communication skills to collaborate with team members and clients
  • Teamwork to effectively work with vendors, project managers, and others
