Position Overview

The Behavior Coach is a regular student technical position in which the student will assist public school staff in the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs to reduce K-12 student behavior problems. This position will be supervised by the Consultation Project Director, Dr. Scott Singleton.

 

Hours per Week

20 hours per week.

 

College/Department

Position location is in the College of Education and Professional Studies, Department of Psychology, MS Behavior Analysis program.

 

Department Specific Job Functions

Duties may include but are not limited to reviewing relevant information and records, scheduling meetings with teachers and other school staff, meeting with school staff, meeting with other consultants and the Consultation Project Director to review progress, driving to distant school districts in Oklahoma, writing behavior plans and support documents, and frequent communication with the Consultation Project Director.

 

Enrollment Requirements

Fall/Spring Semesters: All student employees must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half-time enrollment for fall/spring semesters is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. International students must be enrolled full-time to be eligible to work as a student employee. Full-time enrollment is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.

Summer Semester: Student employees working regular student positions must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours to be eligible to work during the summer. Students not enrolled in summer classes must be enrolled in fall classes in order to work during the summer, but they (and the department) will be required to pay FICA taxes. Student employees working FWSP positions must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours (if undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (if graduate) in order to work during the summer in a Federal Work Study Program position.

Enrollment Exception: If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of hours needed to graduate and anticipated graduation date) and submit it to Human Resources. This pertains to both regular and Federal Work Study Program positions. Contact jobs@uco.edu for more information.

 

Qualifications/Experience Required

In order to be considered for this program the student must be currently enrolled in the MS Behavior Analysis or the BCBA course sequence. The student should have experience in writing and carrying out behavior analytic programs to address severe problem behaviors (e.g., aggression, elopement, self-injurious behavior):

  • Experience working with children and/or adolescents utilizing ABA.
  • Completion of ABA I or permission from the instructor if currently enrolled.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office or equivalent (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Reliable access to the internet.

 

Qualifications/Experience Preferred

  • One year of experience working with children and/or adolescents utilizing ABA.
  • Experience conducting training in ABA for school staff.
  • Completion of ABA I Knowledge/Skills/Abilities.
  • Applicant must have excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and intercultural skills, time management, organization, persistence, detail-orientation, creativity, and judgment.
