What are the responsibilities and job description for the Service-Learning Director (10 months, internal search only) position at University of Central Arkansas?
The Director of Service-Learning provides campus-wide leadership and support for service-learning courses and scholarship by providing a centralized hub for curricular relationships, commitments, activities, resources, best practices, and impacts. The position is a half-time appointment reporting to the Assistant Provost of Teaching and Academic Leadership in the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Academic Leadership. The position equates to two course releases per fall and two course releases per spring and is a 10-month position from August 1st through May 31st each academic year. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Faculty Development and Support
- Work within the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Academic Leadership and collaborate with other campus partners to host faculty development programming related to service-learning
- Facilitate service-learning faculty development institute
- Work with the Service-Learning Advisory Committee to award seed grants to service-learning faculty and select recipients of campus-wide and national recognitions for community-engaged teaching and learning
- Coordinate with the Service-Learning Advisory Committee to identify opportunities to support and expand service-learning in the academic colleges
- Consult with faculty, departments, and Outreach and Community Engagement on service-learning project and partnership development
- Consult and collaborate with faculty on research projects related to service-learning and community engagement
Institutional Support
- Collaborate with stakeholders across campus and in the community to develop and maintain a shared vision and strategy for service-learning in the university’s planning and operations
- Develop and implement ongoing data collection and communication of impacts of service-learning activities, including maintaining the UCA service-learning website
- Represent UCA within local, state, regional, and national networks for community-engaged learning
- Identify new opportunities to expand the university’s capacity for and implementation of service-learning and scholarship
- Review and maintain accurate records of service-learning courses each semester, including updating course-related attributes in the Student Information System.
- Work with campus partners to update and manage service-learning classes and project hours in GivePulse
Community Partnership Development and Partner Support
In collaboration with Outreach and Community Engagement,
- Establish and maintain partnerships with nonprofit and government community partners
- Provide networking, partnership-building, and capacity building opportunities and events for community partners, faculty, staff, and students
- Provide referrals for partners interested in working with service-learning courses or other university departments and programs
- Assist faculty and departments in the development of mutual expectations for campus-community partnerships as needed to establish reciprocal relationships, including maintaining the Campus Partner Handbook.
