What are the responsibilities and job description for the Admissions Counselor position at University of Central Arkansas?
This position reports to the Associate Director of Recruitment and is critical to the recruitment of undergraduate, primarily first-year, students. The successful candidate is responsible for representing the University of Central Arkansas to prospective students and their families as well as school administrators and staff in a variety of public settings. This individual travels extensively within Arkansas and targeted out-of-state markets on behalf of the University to college fairs, high school visits, and other events both on- and off-campus while managing and implementing a recruitment plan for a geographic territory in the state of Arkansas.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Planning and implementing recruitment activities for assigned territory to include high school visits, lunch visits, college planning programs, and special events
- Disseminating accurate and pertinent information regarding UCA, admissions requirements, and undergraduate programs of study to students, families, and school administrators
- Preparing extensive communication and outreach to prospective students, inquiries, and applicants via telephone, email, social media, and hand-written letters
- Utilizing UCA’s student database software to manage targeted recruitment strategies and on-going strategic communications with prospective students, inquiries, and applicants
- Analyzing statistical reports to enhance recruitment strategies
- Collaborating with other campus departments and offices regarding recruiting activities
- Providing campus tours to prospective students and their families
- Participating in special events, including but not limited to Bear Facts Days, Bear Necessities Day, Distinguished Scholars Day, etc.
- Performing other administrative duties as assigned
- Readiness to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required
- Availability to travel to event locations (sometimes driving long distances requiring overnight stays outside the state of Arkansas) during early morning, evening, and weekend hours as needed
- Ability to load and transport admissions materials, displays, and other equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- Capability to work effectively with prospective students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, community members, and off-campus constituents
- Ability to take direction, to organize multiple tasks and documents that have been concurrently assigned, and to work independently
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written abilities that positively reflect upon UCA with diverse populations
- Polished presentation/public speaking skills
- Fine-tuned organization, problem solving, and critical thinking skills
- Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications
- Knowledge of the organization and administration of higher education.

Preferred Education and/or Experience
-Master’s degree in higher education, communication, public relations, or related field -Knowledge of and experience with Banner and/or Banner Recruiter software -Ability to speak conversational Spanish -One (1) year of related office experience
