Pay Rate/Range: The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $25.32 to $29.09/hour. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University.

Department Marketing Statement:

Housing, Dining & Auxiliary Enterprises houses 10,000 students, faculty and family residents on campus, provides support services for 9,300 students residing in the communities adjacent to the campus, serves 21,000 customers daily in its retail and board dining programs, manages the UCSB Campus Store and University Center, hosts 150,000 guests annually for conferences and meetings, manages a major events center (Events Center), and oversees the administration of transportation, parking and fleet services. Additional responsibilities in the HDAE portfolio include Administrative & Residential Information Technology (ARIT) and The Club & Guest House. HDAE employs 600 full-time employees and 1,800 student employees. HDAE maintains a physical plant of more than 3 million square feet of buildings and 250 acres of grounds and landscaping.

Brief Summary of Job Duties:

Installs furniture systems, delivers heavy/delicate equipment, relocation of offices and labs, sets up public events and makes others general deliveries and pickups.

Required Qualifications:

  • One year experience as a Building Maintenance Worker, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 1-3 years Customer Service Experience
  • 1-3 years Experience operating a variety of power and hand tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • 1-3 years Experience delivering, setting-up, and breaking-down equipment for ceremonies and public events.

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Required to hold a valid driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies and procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.
  • Able to frequently lift up to 70 lbs.
  • Occasional Weekends May Be Required.
  • Satisfactory criminal history background check

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

  • 65% Furniture Moving/Installations - Facilitates office, lab, and materiel moves. Works closely with departmental staff to efficiently relocate one person or whole departments while ensuring the work is completed in a timely manner. Advises departments about their modular furniture, draws office layouts, checks for necessary surplus parts to complement their existing furniture, and then installs various items such as furniture, whiteboards, ergonomic keyboard trays, and artwork, as well as seismic bracing of furniture. Operates a variety of power and hand tools in a safe and proficient manner. Delivers large, heavy, or sensitive equipment using trucks with power liftgates, forklifts, pallet jacks, and other specialized material handling equipment. Supports supervisor in leading student employees with work-related tasks, emphasizing safety procedures and proper moving methods to avoid injuries. Advises supervisor of any needed equipment or truck repairs and potential safety issues. Utilizes department-issued device to receive, update, and document work orders in the online work order management system.

  • 20% Special Events - Delivers and sets up rental equipment for all types of ceremonies and public events. These include Commencement, Family Weekend, and Freshman Convocation. Works closely with the customer to ensure equipment is properly placed for maximum satisfaction. Removes all equipment after events and confirms that all rentals are returned. Occasional weekend work is required.

  • 15% Surplus - Removes campus surplus property, with appropriate paperwork, and transports to Distribution & Logistical Services for disposition. Assists as needed to prepare, handle, or inventory surplus property for sales to the public or recycling. In all aspects of work, provides outstanding customer service, exercising good judgement, interpersonal and technical skills and is professional in every respect. Communicates well with clients, co-workers and supervisor, promoting teamwork and positive relations.
