Job Description

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist Supervisor is licensed in all scopes of practice as defined by the State of California Radiologic Health branch and performs routine to complex diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures using radiopharmaceuticals to assist in diagnosis and/or treatment in both the inpatient and outpatient environment.

The technologist must be able to work safely in an acute care setting and be able to interact accordingly with anesthesia and/or other patient care departments that visit the Nuclear Medicine environment. Collects, prepares and analyzes biologic specimens and prepares data for interpretation. Responsible for performing radiation safety and quality control procedures on all Nuclear Medicine equipment as required by the department. 

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist Supervisor responsibilities can include, yet are not limited to the following: 

  • Management of all technologists and ancillary support staff under their direct supervision. 

  • Organization of workflow, coordination of daily work schedules and shift coverage. 

  • Knowledge of all procedures and equipment; maintenance of documentation. 

  • Productivity of the department and staff. 

  • Orientation and training of assigned staff, students, residents, and faculty. 

  • Strong leadership skills and ability to effectively communicate with staff, other departments and physicians. 

Qualifications Required: • Current California CNMT (Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist) • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)(N) or Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB) • Demonstrated leadership skills in training and guiding employees on radiology modality techniques. Motivates and inspires staff to improve services. • Demonstrated ability to prioritize effectively to meet deadlines in a complex, challenging environment. • Applied background in nuclear medicine and associated modalities. Knowledge of principles, protocols, terms and concepts. Skill operating imaging equipment. • Ability to assist with personnel management issues, such as performance reviews, disciplinary actions, etc. • Interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with staff, patients and other medical personnel. • Knowledge of relevant regulatory agency standards. • Proven ability to supervise and coordinate activities of subordinate staff, establish priorities and delegate work assignments. • Solid communication skills both written and verbal. Demonstrated ability to listen actively and counsel and work in a collaborative manner. • Computer proficiency and competency in MS Word and Excel. Knowledge of electronic medical / health records.
