Job Description The Chief Medical Officer (CMO), UCSF Health Network, is a senior physician leadership role responsible for driving clinical excellence across the UCSF Health Network, including the Community Hospital and Ambulatory Divisions. Reporting to the President of UCSF Health Network, with a matrix relationship to the UCSF Chief Medical Officer, the CMO provides programmatic, operational, and strategic clinical leadership to drive growth, improve outcomes, and integrate clinical activities across the Network. The UCSF Health Network is a patient care network committed to delivering high quality, convenient care that is deeply integrated with both the communities we serve and the nationally recognized complex care capabilities of UCSF Health’s academic medical enterprise. Qualifications - MD degree required with the ability to obtain a California medical license - Demonstrated success in a CMO, VP of Medical Affairs, or similar senior physician leadership role. - Progressive physician leadership experience in complex, matrixed, and multi-site healthcare organizations, with a strong preference for experience in community hospital and ambulatory environments. - Proven track record of driving clinical excellence, quality improvement, and patient safety in hospital and ambulatory settings. - Ability to handle the executive management responsibilities in a hospital or small line of business. - Expert knowledge of health care delivery models, business and strategic planning, financial management, program development implementation and organizational development. - Possesses a highly advanced ability to work collaboratively and effectively with multiple medical center executives, campus leadership, external agencies, and other academic medical centers and healthcare institutions. - Expert ability to establish and utilize hospital metrics to drive excellence, support operations and facilitate integration. - Expert knowledge of capital and operating budget development and management, financial analysis, and reporting techniques. - Advanced knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements as well as legislative, accreditation, licensing, and compliance environments. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly in sensitive situations that may involve public scrutiny. - Highly advanced interpersonal skills. Expert negotiation and influencing skills. - Highly advanced ability to build and maintain a climate of trust that inspires commitment to achieve organization goals. - Experience with medical staff leadership, credentialing, and physician engagement initiatives. - Knowledge of physician practice delivery models, value-based care, population health management, and clinically integrated networks. - Demonstrated understanding of quality and safety regulations, standards, and trends in health care. Preferred Qualifications: - Advanced degree preferred (MBA, MPH, or equivalent) in business administration, public health, or health services administration - Familiarity with the greater San Francisco market, payers, and competitive landscape - Experience in community hospital and ambulatory environments.
