The EIA Health Finance team is seeking a highly experienced Senior Data Engineer / Data Platform Architect to support, enhance, and evolve OmniView, UCSF Health's enterprise data warehouse for financial analytics.
OmniView is a mission-critical platform supporting budgeting, cost accounting, labor productivity, and service line analytics. This role combines hands-on engineering, production support, and solution architecture, with a strong emphasis on building scalable, sustainable, and agile data and reporting platforms.
The ideal candidate is equally comfortable managing production systems, architecting enterprise solutions, and collaborating with business and technical stakeholders to deliver high-impact analytics.

Key Responsibilities
1. OmniView Data Warehouse Ownership (Primary Focus)
- Support, maintain, and enhance the OmniView enterprise data warehouse
- Design and optimize data models supporting:
- Budgeting & forecasting
- Cost accounting
- Labor productivity
- Service line analytics
- Develop and manage ETL/ELT processes using SQL Server (SSMS), SSAS
- Ensure high performance, reliability, and data quality
- Manage version control and deployments using GitHub
- Partner with finance stakeholders to evolve the platform
2. Production Support & Operations (Critical)
- Own production support, monitoring, and maintenance of:
- Data pipelines
- Data warehouse systems
- Reports and dashboards
- Troubleshoot data issues, performance bottlenecks, and failures
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and incident response processes
- Ensure SLAs for critical financial reporting systems
- Continuously improve system stability and operational efficiency
3. Data Architecture & Platform Design (Key Attribute)
- Architect scalable, sustainable, and agile data platforms
- Work closely with system owners, finance leaders, and stakeholders
- Translate business needs into cohesive technical solutions
- Design end-to-end data flows across:
- SQL Server ecosystem
- Microsoft Fabric
- Databricks
- BI tools
- Drive modernization of legacy systems
4. Data Engineering & Modern Platforms
- Extend OmniView into modern platforms (Fabric, Databricks)
- Build scalable data pipelines and integrations
- Optimize performance and cost efficiency
5. Data Science & Advanced Analytics
- Develop models for forecasting and financial insights
- Apply statistical and machine learning techniques
- Explore AI / GenAI use cases (e.g., OpenAI)
6. Business Intelligence & Reporting
- Develop dashboards using Power BI
- Enable self-service analytics for finance teams
- Deliver insights via strong data storytelling
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- At least fifteen years of experience in a Data Warehouse/Business Intelligence environment Previous experience in healthcare
- Experience with healthcare operations data, specifically:
- Budgeting and financial planning
- Cost accounting
- Labor productivity
- Service line analytics
- Experience in academic medical centers or large health systems
- Familiarity with Budgeting, Cost Accounting, and Labor productivity in a Healthcare setting.
- Working knowledge of:
- Windows authentication and other security protocols
- MS Windows Server
- SQL Server, MS Team Foundation
- MS Fabric
- Working knowledge of Relational Database design and data modeling skills
- Working knowledge of the Kimball Data Warehouse Dimensional Model
- Working knowledge of the Inmon Data Warehouse Model
- Advanced working knowledge of SQL Server's T-SQL language
- Ability to work in an Agile environment
- This position requires flexibility to orient and work at ail UCSF Medical Center locations
- Demonstrated experience designing, developing and supporting database applications
- Thorough working knowledge of testing practices, application debugging, and troubleshooting procedures
- Ability to identify, assess impact and develop recovery strategies for application or system failures
- Demonstrated ability to identify and implement critical maintenance fixes and to isolate and correct malfunctions, including interface problems
- Demonstrated ability to research, evaluate, and implement new technologies and software
- Ability to use creative problem-solving skills and apply effective technical solutions
- Demonstrated ability to work with technical and non-technical staff to identify user requirements and translate them into technology-based solutions
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare and deliver formal and informal documentation, presentations, and training to a variety of end users
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines
- Ability to foster and maintain positive and professional working relationships
