The Sonoma Valley Hospital (SVH) IT Directorserves as the senior technology leader responsible for defining and executing a comprehensive IT strategy that advances SVH's clinical, operational, and business objectives. This role operates as a key member of the SVH leadership team and maintains a strong alignment with UCSF Health IT to leverage enterprise capabilities, standards, and scale. In addition to reporting to the UCSF VP and Health CIO, they also have reporting accountability to the CEO of Sonoma Valley Hospital.

The incumbent establishes a forward-looking technology vision that ensures a secure, resilient, and high-performing IT environment, while also enabling innovation and growth. This includes driving the development of governance structures, operating models, and service delivery frameworks that position IT as a strategic partner to the organization.

With a high degree of autonomy, the IT Director oversees all aspects of IT operations through subordinate leaders and cross-functional partnerships, ensuring effective stewardship of financial, human, and technology resources.

The role is accountable for risk management, cybersecurity posture, regulatory compliance, and business continuity, proactively identifying vulnerabilities, and implementing safeguards to protect organizational assets.

A key responsibility of this position is to translate SVH business and clinical priorities into actionable technology investments, balancing immediate operational needs with long-term strategic initiatives. The IT Director partners closely with the SVH CEO and UCSF Health CIO to shape IT investment strategy, prioritize initiatives, and ensure alignment with enterprise architecture and standards.

Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for optimizing value through strategic vendor management and leveraging UCSF Health contracts and services, ensuring cost-effectiveness and access to best-in-class capabilities. Specifically managing the relationship with SVH's Community Connect EPIC, through Providence Health.

This role also champions a culture of innovation, accountability, service excellence, and continuous improvement, building a high-performing IT organization that is responsive to stakeholder needs and aligned with SVH and UCSF core values.

Duties and Essential Job Functions:

  • Makes day to day decisions on IT-related matters, prioritize the focus of the SVH IT team and ensures achievements of objectives.
  • Manage the performance and skillset of the SVH IT team to establish and maintain high performance which may include coaching, developing and transitioning staff as appropriate.
  • Reviews status of information technology operations and projects and prepares recommendations for new systems or improvements.
  • Coordinates agendas and preparation of materials for local IT-related governance or decision-making meetings. Participates in appropriate UCSF Health IT governance forums to promote coordination.
  • Evaluate ongoing user needs and identify gaps in client training or information technology (IT) service delivery.
  • Establish and assign responsibilities for the administrative processes required to support selection, contracting, acquisition, payment and management of IT vendors and partners.
  • Leverage UCSF information technology practices and procedures for operational excellence in IT areas where appropriate, e.g. end user security awareness training/communication.
  • Provides responsive advice, counsel, education, and service to SVH leaders concerning IT matters, engaging other SVH and UCSF team members for support as appropriate.
  • Keep senior leaders at SVH informed and involved in major IT operational issues.
  • In conjunction with CEO and UCSF Health CIO, develop annual operating and capital budgets for IT.
  • Act as a key point of coordination for projects and services provided by UCSF.
  • Establish and maintain a culture of teamwork and effective collaboration.
  • Assign and delegate activities across the SVH IT team
  • Develop and support culture of Service Excellence
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • This position requires flexibilityto orient and work at UCSF Health and affiliate partner locations.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • 5-10 years of experience managing an information technology organization.
  • 5 years of healthcare related experience
  • Experience working within health systems, large academic centers, and community hospitals
  • At least one prior implementation of IT systems in a hospital and clinic environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate individuals with different professional training, skill sets and personalities, across teams, and regardless of relative rank or status, in order to execute complex, impactful projects and initiatives in a collaborative manner.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with the design of workflow processes integrated with automated systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote and maintain good interpersonal relationships, and a proficiency in team building, conflict resolution, group interaction, and customer service.
  • General knowledge of information technology components especially in the areas of infrastructure, security and applications support
