Job Summary

statistical analyses and / or research software programming techniques. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
The Bodansky and DeRisi laboratories at the University of California at San Francisco are seeking a Research Data Analyst (open to hiring levels 1 through 4 depending on the skills of the applicant) with recognized expertise in the analysis and interpretation of highly complex multidimensional data sets to lead the analytic support for numerous projects of broad scope and complexity in order to support the combined research enterprises of the Bodansky and DeRisi Laboratories.

The DeRisi Lab at UCSF, led by Joe DeRisi (former HHMI Investigator, CZ Biohub SF President), is known for combining genomics, bioinformatics, and innovative technology development to investigate infectious diseases, autoimmunity, and unexplained illnesses. They pioneered approaches like microarrays, next-gen sequencing for pathogen discovery, and high-throughput proteome-wide protein display technologies, leading to the discovery of novel viruses and autoantibodies, and improving diagnostics for global health and clinical medicine.

The Bodansky Lab at UCSF, led by Aaron Bodansky (Assistant Professor of Pediatric Critical Care, Burroughs Wellcome Fund CAMS awardee, UCSF PSSP Scholar, recent DeRisi Lab post-doc) is dedicated to solving a broad range of currently poorly understood and devastating pediatric diseases.

Together, they are deeply interested in understanding the role of autoantibodies in health and disease. This builds upon their recent work helping define the "autoreactome" (a new 'omic' biological frontier; paper here), and applying these discoveries to solve previously enigmatic severe pediatric diseases (paper here; featured locally UCSF; Mission Local and nationally: New York Times, NPR).

The successful candidate would function with a high degree of autonomy to process high dimensional data, ensure the data meets high standards of quality and reproducibility, and use both existing computational platforms, and create new analytic platforms to both compile and interpret the data. Though no previous experience is expected in PhIP-Seq analysis, the candidate would be expected to quickly learn, apply, and analyze large scale PhIP-Seq data (next generation sequencing readouts of antibodies targeting proteins expressed by a phage library; for example all human proteins or all viral proteins), including newer iterations of PhIP-Seq for high-resolution epitope mapping. The candidate would also develop systems to design new bespoke PhIP-Seq libraries.

Additionally, the successful candidate should have significant experience with traditional single cell and bulk transcriptomic analysis, as well as immune receptor repertoire sequencing (BCR/TCR) analysis. It would be expected that the successful candidate would prepare data for scientific publications, and present data at meetings and national scientific conferences. This candidate would serve as an analytical hub for the lab, integrating with the existing laboratory members and computational biologists, serving to train students and postdoctoral fellows in basic computational analysis.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $87,900 - $126,900 (Annual Rate).
