Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Associate Dean of Students, adjudicates matters referred for disciplinary action and mediates campus-related disputes; counsels and makes referrals for students with grievances; researches and drafts recommendations for policies and procedures related to student conduct-related matters; develops and presents to the University community educational programs on student conduct-related issues; and serves on various campus-wide committees. Supports the Office of the Dean of Students in managing responses to Bias incidents when individual student(s) is the named complainant, supports the Grievance procedures that the Office of the Dean of Students manages, including procedures that outline responses to grievances of violations of privacy protections, university debts, and discrimination beyond disability when another University office does not have jurisdiction.

Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications

  • Demonstrated skill and experience administering and adjudicating student conduct matters with fairness and impartiality. Detailed knowledge of due process requirements. (Required)
  • Detailed knowledge of, and experience implementing, laws pertaining to higher education, including Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, Clery Act, and Title IX. (Required)
  • Detailed knowledge of University of California policies, procedures, and regulations relating to student conduct, student grievances, confidentiality of student records, and organizational discipline. (Preferred)
  • Skill counseling students to resolve University-related problems. Ability to take thoughtful action where answers to a problem are not readily available. (Required)
  • Detailed knowledge of dispute resolution alternatives, including experience mediating between individuals. Demonstrated ability to facilitate resolution of disputes between individuals/groups. (Required)
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills, including ability to analyze data, evaluate programs and procedures, and interpret information. (Required)
  • Demonstrated communication skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with members of diverse cultural, social, political, and religious backgrounds and varied age, gender, and sexual orientation. (Required)
  • Use of appropriate vocabulary and grammar to obtain and convey information to individuals at various organizational levels. Ability to compose clear, well-constructed correspondence, reports, and informational materials. (Required)
  • Ability to research and write analytical reports. Ability to speak formally and informally and make prepared and extemporaneous presentations to and for others. (Required)
  • Skill in working independently and following through with minimal direction. Outstanding organizational skills, ability to set priorities and carry out multiple assignments. (Required)
  • Skill in negotiating and exchanging information to arrive at outcomes. Ability to maintain equanimity, sensitivity, and judgment in the face of resistance, indifference or hostility. (Required)
  • Ability to plan, administer, coordinate, and present a variety of activities and educational and informational programs appropriate to a diverse university-wide audience. (Required)

  • Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  • Master's Degree Advanced degree in Law, Student Affairs, Educational Leadership, Counseling, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (Required)

  • Special Conditions for Employment

    • Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
    • Live Scan Background Check: A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment.
    • CANRA: The position is designated as a mandatory reporter under CANRA. The employee must sign the "Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse".
