This position is responsible for the repair and maintenance of a variety of mechanical, electronic, and electromechanical medical devices and patient support and transport equipment.

The Clinical Engineering Technicians support all medical equipment from Walnut Creek, CA to Auburn, CA.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
  • Biomedical Equipment Technician Certificate from an accredited college AND/OR Hands-on Training-Completed Biomedical Internship at a hospital facility/surgery center, gaining practical experience in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of clinical equipment in a healthcare environment.
  • Minimum of six months Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) work experience or equivalent biomedical training/volunteer internship
  • Mechanical, electromechanical and electronic skills, including ability to read electrical and mechanical drawings and schematics, perform electrical, electromechanical and mechanical assembly and repair.
  • General knowledge of medical equipment
  • Ability to communicate with staff and vendors regarding equipment issues with both verbal and written communication methods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Biomedical Technician (CBET)
  • Associates Degree in Electronic Technology
  • 1-year Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) work experience preferred

Department Overview

The Clinical Engineering Department provides a wide scope of services including: medical equipment planning, pre-purchase product evaluation, integration with IT systems, installation, and repair and maintenance services to the UC Davis Health (UCDH), including its primary care network (PCN) clinics, and Shriners Hospital for Children, Northern California. In addition to repair and maintenance on most medical devices, we also provide services to the following specialty areas: medical imaging, radiation therapy, respiratory therapy, dialysis, anesthesiology, operating room, IT integration with medical devices, and ICU equipment.

Work Environment

  • Willing to respond to emergency off-hours repair calls on nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Willing to work overtime for special projects and emergency repairs.
