  • Anticipated hiring range: $100,000 - $130,000 (commensurate with experience)

Location: San Francisco, California (on-site role with occasional hybrid flexibility)

THE ROLE And Responsibilities

The Associate Director is a key frontline fundraiser in the UC Law San Francisco Office of Advancement and Alumni Engagement, reporting to the Director of Philanthropy.

This role engages alumni and friends of the College to inspire meaningful philanthropic investments that expand access and opportunities to an excellent legal education, empower outstanding teaching and scholarship, shape the practice and real-world impact of the law, and strengthen the academic village in the heart of San Francisco.

This is an especially exciting time to join UC Law San Francisco. The College is in the final phase of Into the Future, its first and largest comprehensive fundraising campaign, with an ambitious goal of $100 million by 2027 to advance four strategic priorities: Student Success, Faculty Excellence, Innovative Initiatives, and the Academic Village. Looking ahead, the College will also celebrate the 150th anniversary of its founding in the 2027/2028 academic year, creating a unique opportunity for the Associate Director to help shape the next chapter through transformational philanthropy.

Key Functions And Priorities

Advancement and Portfolio Management

  • Managing a portfolio of 150 alumni donors and prospects across assigned communities
  • Navigating the full development cycle — via identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and long-term stewardship, specifically on five- to seven- figure philanthropic investments
  • Collaborating with the Director of Philanthropy, Chief Advancement Officer, and Advancement Team, to maintain a fluid and viable portfolio
  • Deploying bespoke, informed, and relationship-driven strategies to advance, deepen, and strengthen alumni philanthropy
  • Meeting, travelling, and visiting key alumni donors and prospects across assigned communities
  • Documenting communications and interactions via Raiser’s Edge NXT database
  • Other related responsibilities as assigned

Strategic Engagement and Partnerships

  • Partnering with the Advancement Team, Chancellor and Dean’s Office, College Leadership, Faculty, and other members of the UC Law SF Community on key collaborative advancement initiatives, priorities, and opportunities
  • Participating, as needed and with the guidance of the Director of Philanthropy and Chief Advancement Officer, in key meetings with the UC Law SF Foundation Board of Trustees and UC Law SF Alumni Association Advisory Board of Governors
  • Participating in events throughout the year, including but not limited to the following:
    • Institutional Events: Chancellor’s Annual Reception
    • Advancement Team Events: Alumni Spring Week, Swearing-In Ceremony, Commencement Ceremony
    • Alumni Chapter & Alumni Affinity Group Events
    • Other Events (for philanthropic engagement)
Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, with preference for candidates with advanced degrees
  • 3 years of demonstrated, progressive, and successful experience across frontline fundraising, donor engagement, and relationship management, specifically toward five- to seven- figure philanthropic investments
  • Ability to build rapport with internal and external stakeholders, and across campus
  • Ability to represent UC Law SF at alumni donor and prospective donor meetings
  • Ability to travel locally and nationally for donor and prospective donor meetings
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and interpersonal)
  • Commitment to advance UC Law SF’s mission and priorities
