What are the responsibilities and job description for the Marketing Strategist position at University of Bristol - School of Physiology, Pharmacology and Neuroscience?
The role
As a Marketing Strategist, you will play a pivotal role in shaping how the university is recognised locally and globally. Supporting the Head of Strategy, you will help to develop research-driven brand marketing strategies that strengthen our reputation, attract both international and home students, and engage a wide range of stakeholders.
Your work will directly contribute to positioning the university as a top 50 leader in global higher education and to the successful delivery of our 2030 strategy through innovative brand management and marketing initiatives.
You will also play a key part in sharing insight across the university - disseminating market research, highlighting best practice, and advising colleagues on effective strategic approaches. Working collaboratively with teams across the division, as well as faculties, schools, and institutes, you will ensure our brand and marketing activity is insight-led, strategic, and impactful.
Please note that this is a backfill position concluding 14th October 2026.

Hybrid Working Arrangement
This role follows a hybrid working pattern, with 3 days working from home (Monday, Tuesday, and Friday) and 2 days working on campus (Wednesday and Thursday).
We welcome applications for this role as part of a job share arrangement. The position is 1.0 FTE in total, and we are seeking candidates who can work collaboratively to ensure full coverage across the working week (Monday to Friday), with at least one person working each day. Please indicate your availability and preferred working pattern in your application.

Salary: £43,482 - £50,253 per annum (pro-rated for part-time)

What will you be doing?
- Support the Head of Strategy in developing university-wide brand and marketing strategies, frameworks, and messaging guidance.
- Translate strategic objectives into actionable plans for Faculties and Schools, ensuring alignment with brand positioning and campaign structures.
- Lead delegated brand and marketing projects, engaging stakeholders, defining objectives, and shaping value propositions.
- Use research and audience insight to inform evidence-based recommendations, identifying trends and sector developments.
- Act as a point of contact for assigned faculties or areas, embedding consistent messaging and supporting strategic delivery.
- Contribute to continuous improvement, including evaluation of marketing effectiveness, development of best-practice tools, and mentoring team members.
- Experience working effectively within a strategy team and supporting the development of global brand positioning and marketing strategy at an organisational level.
- Proven expertise in brand-led integrated marketing, including digital marketing strategies and technologies.
- Skilled in using brand tracking, market research, and audience insights to inform strategic decisions.
- Experience evaluating creative work against strategic briefs and providing constructive feedback to delivery teams.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Relevant professional qualification (or equivalent experience) and a track record of professional development, with strong interpersonal skills and problem-solving ability under pressure.
