Clinical Research Fellow in Interventional Cardiology

University of Bristol - School of Physiology, Pharmacology and Neuroscience
Bristol, CT Part Time
POSTED ON 7/6/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 8/1/2026
The role

The fellowship post is directly linked to the British Orbital Atherectomy Registry (BOAR) which aims to evaluate the contemporary utilisation and outcomes of the Orbital Atherectomy System (OAS) for treatment of severe coronary calcification, guided by optical coherence tomography (OCT) in the UK. The study commenced enrolment in Q4 2025 and recruitment is anticipated to run for 2years, with one-year clinical outcomes. This real-world registry will provide an important evaluation of OAS treatment of severely calcified coronary disease and the role of OCT in guiding and optimising PCI outcomes. The fellowship will be hosted in the academic Bristol Heart Institute under direct supervision from Dr Tom Johnson, Associate Professor of Cardiology.

The successful candidate will be working within a high-quality translational research department with potential to develop further projects extending from the data collected during BOAR, in addition to gaining exposure to the high-volume clinical practice within the Bristol Heart Institute.

What will you be doing?

The successful applicant will be responsible for the coordination of recruiting centres, standardisation of OCT assessment and receipt of imaging data for the BOAR study. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will have clinical experience of percutaneous coronary intervention and optical coherence tomography and during the fellowship period will develop skills in quantitative and qualitative analysis of OCT.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ‘core-lab’ analysis of angiographic and OCT data relating to the study.
