Summary of Job Duties:

The position will utilize fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures to execute research programs in the area of characterization and evaluation of asphalt materials within the department of Civil Engineering. This position will work directly with Dr. Andrew Braham as a colleague and equal to expand the existing research portfolio for the Civil Engineering department in the area of asphalt materials.

Specific Job Responsibilities Will Include

  • Generate proposals, which will include identifying research problems, designing appropriate methodologies to explore the research problems, and execute the accepted proposals
  • Write scholarly publications based on accepted proposals, research being performed by graduate students, and mining existing data sets that will contribute to the body of knowledge in asphalt materials.
  • Write technical reports that summarize multi-faceted research projects for dissemination to the research community.
  • Direct and guide graduate and undergraduate students in the performance of their research duties
  • Teaching either an undergraduate course or graduate course in the field of pavement materials, pavement structural design, pavement production and construction, and/or pavement maintenance and rehabilitation. This will require an expert in these specialized areas.
  • Overseeing graduate and undergraduate students in the specimen fabrication, testing, and analysis of various asphalt mixture tests, including I-FIT, IDEAL-CT, SCB, BBR, HWT, dynamic modulus, and cyclic fatigue.
  • Overseeing graduate students with the input of collected asphalt mixture test data into various pavement softwares including AASHTOWare Pavement ME) and Discrete Element Modeling

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on pavement engineering
  • Experience for three semesters as a graduate teaching assistant
  • Internship experience with a private company/industry
  • Experience in writing technical reports for state/province agencies
  • At least five, published peer-reviewed journal publications as primary author
  • Experience running the Asphalt Mixture Performance Test, the Bending Beam Rheometer, and the Hamburg Rutting Test

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience generating research proposals
  • Experience with pavement software including AASHTO Pavement ME and Discrete Element Modeling
