Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma/GED with nine (9) years of steam, chilled water, and heating water production experience, five (5) years of experience in a supervisory role.
Or Bachelor's plus 5 years of steam, chilled water, and heating water production experience.
Valid driver's license with fewer than 12 points on their Motor Vehicle Record.
High pressure boiler operator's license.
Computer program proficiency level: Intermediate.
Preferred qualifications:
5-7 years supervisory experience in a healthcare setting.
CHFM (Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager).
Computer program proficiency level: Advance.

- THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR PROVIDES LEADERSHIP IN THE OPERATION OF CHILLED WATER AND STEAM PRODUCTION, BOILERS, CHILLERS, AND SUPPORTING INFRASTRUCTURE, ENSURING SAFE, RELIABLE, AND EFFICIENT PERFORMANCE ACROSS ALL SYSTEMS. THIS ROLE MANAGES STAFF, CONTRACTORS, AND VENDORS, OVERSEES MAINTENANCE AND UPGRADES, ENSURES REGULATORY AND SAFETY COMPLIANCE, AND SUPPORTS STRATEGIC PLANNING AND SPECIAL PROJECTS THAT ENHANCE ENERGY RELIABILITY, SUSTAINABILITY, AND INSTITUTIONAL EFFICIENCY. THE POSITION ALSO FOSTERS COLLABORATION ACROSS CAMPUS DEPARTMENTS AND STAKEHOLDERS TO ALIGN ENERGY OPERATIONS WITH THE UNIVERSITY'S MEDICAL, EDUCATIONAL, AND RESEARCH MISSIONS.
- THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR MUST HAVE DEMONSTRATED EXPERTISE IN BUILDING AUTOMATION SYSTEMS (BAS), INCLUDING PROGRAMMING, INTEGRATION, AND OPTIMIZATION TO ENSURE RELIABLE OPERATION OF CHILLED WATER, STEAM, HVAC, AND ENERGY MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS. THIS INCLUDES USING BAS DATA FOR TROUBLESHOOTING, DIAGNOSTICS, PERFORMANCE MONITORING, AND ENERGY CONSERVATION, AS WELL AS COORDINATING WITH CONTROLS CONTRACTORS AND CAMPUS OPERATIONS STAFF TO MAINTAIN SYSTEM INTEGRITY AND EFFICIENCY.
- THE ROLE ALSO REQUIRES A STRONG UNDERSTANDING OF DISTRICT HYDRONIC HEATING AND CHILLED WATER LOOP SYSTEMS, INCLUDING SYSTEM DESIGN, HYDRONIC BALANCING, ENERGY TRANSFER, LOAD MANAGEMENT, REDUNDANCY PLANNING, AND SYSTEM-WIDE PERFORMANCE OPTIMIZATION. THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR MUST BE CAPABLE OF EVALUATING SYSTEM PERFORMANCE, IDENTIFYING INEFFICIENCIES, AND RECOMMENDING OPERATIONAL IMPROVEMENTS AND UPGRADES TO MAXIMIZE RELIABILITY AND EFFICIENCY.
- IN ADDITION, THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR MUST POSSESS COMPREHENSIVE KNOWLEDGE OF HIGH-PRESSURE BOILERS, INCLUDING OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE, COMBUSTION PROCESSES, FUEL SYSTEMS, BURNER MANAGEMENT, SAFETY DEVICES, PRESSURE RELIEF SYSTEMS, AND FAIL-SAFE CONTROLS. KNOWLEDGE OF ASME CODES, STATE AND LOCAL REGULATIONS, INSPECTION REQUIREMENTS, AND WATER TREATMENT PROGRAMS IS REQUIRED, ALONG WITH THE ABILITY TO OPTIMIZE BOILER PERFORMANCE, IMPROVE EFFICIENCY, AND MANAGE EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROCEDURES.
