With a wide range of subjects to choose from, our students can explore subjects ranging from ancient philosophy to artificial intelligence.

The School of Government & Public Policy (SGPP) in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) is seeking applications for a Program Coordinator (Student Support Coordinator I) to serve the program needs in student outreach, engagement, and retention efforts in the school. SGPP is a large school with four undergraduate programs, three master’s programs, and a doctoral program. This position will provide administrative support to our staff and students in all four undergraduate programs, which operate on the Main Campus and Arizona Online. The successful applicant will work well in a fast-paced environment, manage many initiatives and projects independently, maintain proactive communication with internal and external partners, and demonstrate professional competence.

This position reports directly to the SGPP Assistant Director of Operations and Faculty Affairs and will coordinate regularly with the administrative, advising, and business staff who support undergraduate programs in SGPP, as well as with many partnering departments across campus and the Tucson community. The ideal candidate will have experience with student engagement initiatives on campus designed to foster a sense of belonging, as well as implementing successful measures to encourage student persistence. This position requires technical competency, dedication to a team approach, personal accountability, and excellent communication skills.

Duties & Responsibilities

Outreach Administration

  • Plan and execute welcoming communication and activities for new first-year students and transfer students to our undergraduate majors. This will include summer welcome and in-person activities for students.
  • Plan and execute logistics for events, including student outreach and engagement activities, student support and professionalism events, etc.

Retention Administration

  • Working with the SGPP undergraduate team and in coordination with SBS, coordinate and execute outreach to at-risk SGPP students to evaluate their needs and offer solutions.
  • Work collaboratively with SGPP undergraduate staff to increase student engagement with, and use of, departmental and campus resources (academic and financial).
  • Work collaboratively with various university departments and our college units involved in recruiting students, data management, student services, disability services, mental health, etc.

Programmatic Administration

  • Understand degree requirements and expectations for SGPP majors to refer students to appropriate resources.
  • Manage all undergraduate promotional materials, social media content, and other school marketing campaigns. Coordinate with faculty, staff, and students to disseminate engagement materials.
  • Process external awards for students awarded school funds for scholarships and approved academic activities.
  • Working with the SGPP undergraduate team, and in coordination with SBS, create weekly, monthly, and semesterly data reports that identify students in need of support and identify solutions to manage this student cohort.
  • Actively participate in the SGPP undergraduate team meetings and other campus or college committees as needed to successfully execute your duties.

Recruitment

  • Working with the SGPP undergraduate team, and in coordination with SBS, execute events related to outreach and recruitment activities for high school and community college students, as needed or requested.
  • Develop and maintain sustainable relationships and partnerships with new and existing external stakeholders to help establish strong links with the University for prospective students.
  • Develops and implements an SGPP recruitment plan that aligns with the SBS recruitment plan and involves prospective student management, targeted recruitment efforts, enrollment of prospective students, and strategies for student success and retention.

  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships and communicate effectively with individuals and organizations representing varying backgrounds and viewpoints.
  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of the higher-education experience and undergraduate student life cycle.
  • Knowledge of Outlook, Microsoft Office Suite, and Qualtrics.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting and budgeting procedures.
  • Ability to work independently on pre-established projects and new initiatives as assigned by dept leadership and the undergraduate team.
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion and empathy for the students’ academic and social experience and their connectedness to the University and the department.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in public administration, management, higher education, or related fields.
  • 1 year of relevant experience.
