The UAS Student Housing office is hiring a Lead Cleaning Crew Student Assistant for the 2025–2026 academic year. This position provides custodial support for Student Housing residents and Conference Housing guests, as well as leadership and guidance to other Cleaning Crew members.

Being a Lead Cleaning Crew member is an excellent opportunity to strengthen your marketable skills for future employment, including teamwork, leadership, customer service, critical thinking and problem-solving, and time management. On-site training will be provided and includes instruction on equipment and chemical usage, as well as hazardous materials training. Pay begins at $15.88/hr.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day custodial support to Student Housing and Conference Housing areas.
  • Offer guidance and direction to other student Cleaning Crew members during assigned shifts.
  • Ensure cleaning standards are met and report maintenance or safety concerns to professional staff.
  • Assist in organizing cleaning schedules and monitoring supply levels.
  • Maintain professionalism and serve as a role model for other student employees.

Work Schedule:
The ideal candidate will be available to work 15–20 hours per week, in 3–5 hour blocks of time, Monday–Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Some flexibility may be required during peak turnover or conference periods.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to provide guidance to peers and promote teamwork.
  • Experience working with diverse individuals and maintaining a positive, inclusive environment.
  • Effective conflict mediation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to complete tasks efficiently and independently.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to perform physically demanding tasks, including walking across varied terrain and lifting 25–50 pounds.
  • Previous cleaning or custodial experience preferred.
  • Preference is given to applicants with at least two semesters of community living experience prior to employment (not required).

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must complete all UAS employee Required Training (including Safety, Title IX, Protection of Minors, Campus Security Authority, and FERPA) within two weeks of hire.

To be eligible for student employment, an applicant must:

a. Be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment; or
b. Have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters; and
c. Have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA, be in good academic standing, or have approval from the MAU Senior Student Services officer or designee; and
d. Students enrolled in non-traditional programs may be considered with the approval of the Senior Student Services officer.
e. Applicants must provide evidence of enrollment to substantiate employment eligibility.

A valid driver’s license and clean driving record (in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria) are preferred.

Position Details:

This position is located on the University of Alaska Southeast Juneau campus. It is a part-time, non-exempt Student Level 2 position, starting at $15.88/hr.
