SafeState Environmental Health and Safety Consultant II

Pay Grade/Pay Range: Minimum: $62,300 - Midpoint: $81,000 (Salaried E10)

Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm; some overnight and weekend travel.

Job Summary: The SafeState Environmental Health and Safety Consultant II provides complex industrial hygiene and occupational safety consultation services, including onsite visits to businesses and industries in Alabama.

Additional Department Summary: Collaborates with management to provide appropriate environmental health and safety consultation and education services to new and existing clients. Works independently in developing and producing appropriate programs and services. Meets revenue targets for environmental consultation services.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering, safety science, business, management, public health, or physical sciences and four (4) years of occupational safety experience; OR masters degree or higher in engineering, safety science, industrial management, public health, or physical sciences and two (2) years of occupational safety experience.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.

Skills and Knowledge: Strong organizational, communication and public relations skills. Knowledge of Environmental Protection Agency, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and US Department of Housing and Urban Development regulations. Knowledge of EHS sampling techniques and equipment.

Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree and two (2) years of experience in management of environmental assessment/remediation projects, management of a business in the environmental, safety, and/or health fields, management of environmental or occupationally related accreditation / certification programs, or consulting, designing, or implementing environmental management systems; OR bachelor's degree and four (4) years of experience in management of environmental assessment/remediation projects, management of a business in the environmental, safety, and/or health fields, management of environmental or occupationally related accreditation/certification programs, or consulting, designing, or implementing environmental management systems.

The following is preferred prior to starting in the position, but at a minimum must be obtained within 12 months of appointment: 1) Federal and state accredited AHERA Inspector (reference 40 CFR 763); 2) Federal or state certification as Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor (ref. 40 CFR 745). Certified or eligible for certification as a CIH by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene. Certified Instructional Trainer (CIT), or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM).
