The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks an Assistant Director of Development to join the Heersink School of Medicine development office with the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center team. Under the direction of the Senior Director of Development, the Assistant Director of Development will successfully implement priority special events of the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center including ArtBLINK and Palate and Palette by efficiently soliciting and closing a defined number of mid-level gifts.
This position will work with volunteer leaders to identify and qualify donors for the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center. The incumbent will work with prospects to build and maintain a portfolio and is expected to meet/exceed established metrics on an annual basis – including dollar, visit, solicitations, and proposals
This position reports to the Senior Director of Development for the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center.
This position is hybrid eligible after the probationary period.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Senior Director of Development for the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center to help build a pipeline of future major and principal donors
- Oversee and implement a successful ArtBLINK Gala, manage all activities of the Young Supporters Board, and oversee and implement the Palate and Palette event
- Build, establish, and maintain a portfolio of individuals, foundations, and corporations with the capacity to make mid-level/major gifts to UAB’s O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center
- Execute all fundraising strategies, including creating and delivering proposals to prospects and donors, accountable for fundraising productivity, donor engagement and cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship metrics
- Performs other duties as assigned
Salary Range: $52,555 - $70,000
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Business or related field
- 3 years of fundraising or equivalent experience
- Work experience may not substitute for education requirement
- After-hours work and travel required
Preferred Qualifications
- Effectively implement special events with an eye for detail. Possess strong project management skills.
- Effectively work with community and volunteer leaders to meet and exceed fundraising goals.
- Intermediate knowledge of fundraising techniques (qualifying, asks, objections, messaging)
- Advanced networking - positioning conversations
- Advanced stakeholder management (status, prospects lists, communications, etc.)
- Knowledge of basic planned giving techniques and higher education endowment practices
- Portfolio development / management
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and persuasively
- Advanced writing skills
- Presentation skills
- Knowledge of HIPAA-compliant fundraising practices in healthcare philanthropy
- Ability to work competently and accurately within CRM
